Here is a different perspective. I view On Demand as one of those nice little perks on my Time Warner cable package that I never expected to have. I don't expect perfection from it, or even quality. I am astonished that it exists at all, and am glad about it. I use it every week and it brings me happiness.

This is just about watching TV, not about saving the free world, or marrying your soul mate. I imagine that virtually none of the reasonably happy customers even think about any of the topics that have been brought up in this thread. I know that I never have.

Consumers will always gravitate to the most convenient or the biggest---whether it is the square footage of a new house or how many songs or movies are available to stream. Even if they never watch or listen to 99% of it, they want to have it available.

Seems to me like all the Free on demand is stuff I've seen before.

So how long before they start editing all movies and TV shows primarily for the tiny screens? They do it for music...
