What we see as hilariously funny, they look and roll their eyes and say 'it's so stupid'.

It was beyond that even, she couldn't even understand what it was we found funny. Usually if it is something stupid she will get why I will find it funny. This though was completely beyond her.
Yet she has sat thru and enjoyed Python's Holy Grail, Life of Brian etc. So it's not a question of taste.

To me if I had a gun to my head and was asked to pick the best 'comedy' people ever it would be Stan and Ollie - truly timeless. For me anyway. And I'm a big Python fan, love Fawlty Towers, Blackadder etc.

Hardy has talent to burn. He's just one role away from becoming a major star.

Given the ambiguity of the OP's question and some of the answers the obvious answer is Stereotypes

A presumption that women don't like a particular type of film, with many of the ones cited having been enjoyed by women I know.

There are many possibilities but one here in my household is "The Fifth Element." It's one of my favorites, but according to my wife "it' is SO stupid."

I'd say even stuff like Airplane, The Naked Gun, This is Spinal Tap, Monty Python, or Mel Brooks films. Pretty much anything heavy on slapatick, meta, or British humor has gotten universal reactions from women of "that's not funny; it's just stupid." Also, slower paced horror films without contemporary sound cues and styling get the "this is boring and not scary" reaction

You think so. right up until you take a girl to Mission Impossible ( I believe it was) which got sold out and you decide to go to see girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This was our first date and I didn't know her that well.

The original Get Carter (maybe the remake as well, although I've never seen it). Michael Caine has a few romantic leads in the film, but they generally don't end well for the ladies involved.

Actually, I think "Deep Throat" got a much more mixed-gender audience than usual for porn.

It was a cultural phenomenon and a lot of people who normally avoided porn went to see it - including a substantial female audience...

Now? Now no one cares about "Deep Throat". No one watches it other than as a historical curiosity...
