I will be writing a column about this loss within the next 24 hours or so. I am terribly saddened. He was a major player in my musical life.

My all-time favorite vocalist, and second favorite bassist. It almost feels like losing a family member, even though I didn't know him, except through his music.

  5. "Songs for a Tailor" and "Harmony Row" are two of my favorite recordings by any artist, any era (and easily beat Cream, in my opinion). He then went on to record at least a few gems on every project over the next 44 years. One of the greats.

What a talent. So much more than just "Cream bassist" like most headlines are saying.

Glad I had the chance to see him live once, with BBM, 20 years ago.

    RIP

We are getting to that point in time where a lot of these musicians from the 50's through the 70's will be passing on. Its never good to hear the news, but it's inevitable. If you were lucky enough to have seen Cream or West, Bruce and Lang live, cherish those memories and treat yourself to their records if you don't already have them. It's the music that keeps their memory alive so he will have a lasting legacy.

In R&R Jack Bruce stood among the best of many great players! Listening to " Weird of Hermiston" from song for a tailor. "I'm going to a funeral, I'm going to a funeral dressed in black, I'm going to a nightclub..." has always spoke to me. Life lived and lived hard with no regrets. If I had to pick a big three in R&R it would be Jack Bruce, Phil Lesh and Jack Casady. Got to see Mr. Bruce a few times ( 1980 was the last and it was really good ) and he always gave his all. Thanks

Really sad to hear this news.

I saw him live with both Cream and West, Bruce and Lang, and he was outstanding.

Songs for a Tailor is such a great album.

    He will be remembered.

Today after I first heard the news, I started to reminisce about the great times I had in my life, and many times Cream's music was part of the back drop. For most of us that came of age in the 1960's, it's part of our life passing on. It's a huge loss for me personally.

A couple of weeks ago, I found and purchased a copy of "Songs for a Tailor" Monarch promotional copy on vinyl. I use to have it many years ago on 8 track tape, but I never had a vinyl copy of it. Most of the time when I came across a copy of this record, it was usually thrashed. So when I found one in good condition I was really happy. I think there was some kind of vibe going on the led me to to this record.

RIP Jack. I found 'Songs For A Tailor' on vinyl years ago, knowing only his name. What great and interesting music. Upgraded to CD and discovered it all over again. Was listening to 'Theme From An Imaginary Western' only earlier this week and thinking 'nothing else sounds like this'. Great multi-talented musician with a very expressive voice and unique style.

@GZRMusic: So sad to hear of Jack Bruce passing. My biggest influence and favourite bass player. Thank you, Jack. RIP.”

One of the true great legendary musicians to come out of the 60's. R.I.P. Jack

  23. This is awful news. Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker were extremely good, but Jack Bruce was the heart and soul of Cream. He also had the most rewarding solo career of any Cream member.

RIP Jack, a true virtuoso and a titan of a musician. His (and Ginger's) playing was just as influential on my guitar playing as EC's was when I was learning to play. I had the privilege of reading and reviewing his memoir earlier this year and one of the biggest honors of my life was getting a thumbs-up and a word of thanks from Jack via his official Facebook page. He will be sorely missed. RIP Jack.
