I asked this a while back and didn't receive any responses. Since Sky Fall has been released I wanted to post this again.

I have the following James Bond films on blu ray (in chronological order). I wanted films that either stayed true to the novel or had a seriousness with a touch of humour and not too much camp. Another factor is if the format improved the film since its latest DVD release. I did provide some comments on why I chose the title.

Any other titles that I am missing or should add ot this?

    My list:

    Dr No
    From Russia With Love
    Goldfinger
Thunderball - (Great underwater scenes in this. A little long of a film. But not too over the top like the next one)
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Live and Let Die - (Great opening song. Enjoy the car chases and Felix Leiter. The blu ray fixed the red saturation of the last DVD release during the title sequence)
    The Spy Who Loved Me
    For Your Eyes Only
    The Living Daylights*
    Goldeneye
    Casino Royale
    Skyfall

4 Sean Connery films; 3 Roger Moore films; 2 by Daniel Craig and one each for George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

Now this may spark some controversy, but Licence to Kill despite the claim that its Ian Flemingish comes across to me like a Miami Vice spinoff. Wayne Newton is campy as the evangelist. And I found the gore a bit over the top. :hide:

Live and Let Die is a real stupid movie, but not as stupid as Diamonds Are Forever. And I still maintain that Moonraker was the worst Bond of all of them.

I liked "Tomorrow Never Dies" but then again Jonathan Pryce can do no wrong in my book.

I would drop Thunderball from that list (Bond goes widescreen and starts to bloat; I'm trying to think which goes faster, the tour around the Enterprise in Star Trek:The Motion Picture or this movie's underwater battle) and add Licence to Kill (Bond goes PG-13).

  11. Yeah but I love both-- first two Bond films I can remember seeing in theaters. The first two that took the steps into camp and self parody.

Any thoughts about adding You Only Live Twice & Octopussy to my list?

I know Octopussy has some cringe worthy moments: Tarzan yell. Some criticize Bond in a clown outfit at the end, but didn't the MI6 agent in the beginning of the movie also go undercover as a clown?

Amazon has a lot of them on sale for $4.99. You should grab them. Your player must be hungry for some more. :)

'You Only Live Twice' is worthy for the camera work of Freddie Young. Also John Barry's score is superb. Beautiful scenes in Japan, a volcano, and Dr. Loomis with a cat! That Scottish actor isn't too bad either....... :)

Really? I think Connery seems totally lackluster and bored in it. Some scenes it looks like he's reading his lines off of cue cards.

For me even a bored Connery is better than a non-Connery.

    I really like YOLT.

The title song is great, Akiko Wakabayashi, rocket ships, piranha, a volcano, Little Nelly, and Sean Connery - I'd add it to my Bond list.

I'm a Connery fan so Diamonds is in for me. Besides, Jill St. John is SO hot in this movie. Live And Let Die - if it wasn't filmed in New Orleans and had the chase scenes, I'd drop it. Moonraker - never could get into that one.

I like Licence to Kill. With a few changes (mostly directional), it would be a lot better, though.

Moonraker is a thousand times worse. Both it and Diamonds Are Forever suffer from being comedies rather than spy/action-adventure films. I just rewatched The Spy Who Loved Me about six months ago on Blu-ray, and that did not hold up well.

And that's precisely why I dislike them so much.
