Early reviews are coming in, reportedly a "warts and all" effort.

I bought my first issue of Rolling Stone in 1968, age 14, on vacation in San Francisco.
It had The Band on the cover, still have it.

I well remember reading their Altamont Festival investigation the next year, and realizing the music business could be just as vain and clueless as government.

    Washington Post
Jann Wenner doesn’t like the new book about him. But you just might.

Serves him right after he and Ben Fong Torres screwed over William Miller after his "Stillwater" piece.

Rolling Stone was a fantastic magazine for awhile. One of the best, in my opinion, all through the 7os (I only started reading it in the early 70s) and at least through the mid-80s, say.

Jann Wenner doesn't seem like someone I'd at all get along with, though.

I think the problem is that RS was a hot piece of shrapnel for a few years and a cold lump of lead for a LOT of years. It's great that you were the prom king in High School but what have you done for me lately Jann?

Sounds like an interesting read...I'll wait for it to hit the public library.
I haven't spent money on anything associated with Rolling Stone

  10. Apparently, this book works great as a double feature alongside the film "Perfect'

  11. They had a GREAT 25-30 year run. It started going down hill when they left San Francisco and went to New York and the big publishing world.

Seriously I get what they did for the ad revenue and so called journalistic seriousness, however they did lose a bit of their left wing and left coast edge.

    So it goes....

I've already ordered it. Apparently, Jann doesn't want anything negative about him out there. Unfortunately, he screwed a lot of people over and they've got something to say...

I sold 10 years worth to www.usedmagazines.com around 2004 and turned a profit, so thanks to Jann.

Rolling Stone ended for me when they moved from San Francisco to New York.

Here’s a fun fact for all you Jann fanns: There was an author talk and signing for this at the Rock Hall, which was canceled this week because of the “controversy.”

"...deeply flawed and tawdry." Good way of describing the Wenner/RS treatment of Joni Mitchell's work and career over the years.

I had to go to three thrift stores to find one that would even take my back issues of Goldmine and Rolling Stone. I don't have time in my life to look at old magazines, and it was beginning to look like a hoarder home.

I had about 10 years of Rolling Stone and Spin and I got a few hundred bucks as I recall. It's a great site for anyone looking to get rid of magazines that are in top condition. I would read them and then put them on the pile so no problem. They send you a prepaid label and UPS picks up the boxes and then you get a check in the mail after they look at all the the magazines. The only problem was the UPS guy who said one of the boxes was over 70 pounds and he wasn't going to take it and his back was hurting and blah blah blah.
