Thanks for clarifying! My ability to read Japanese is not so great.

Can't believe someone would throw an obi strip away, thats one of the main reasons it becomes collectible if it go's out of print or hard to get hold of. Mini LP, Ltd box set etc.

When they are included in used offerings, it lets you know the owner was a legit collector and everthing is in tip top shape, basically screams MINT

They sound especially good when the obi is still present!

4 out of 5 audiologists say CDs with obis sound better.
I would post a link to that reference but seem to have, ahem, misplaced it...

On The Who's first 4 Japan lp releases, which are very rare to begin with, if you can find one with the original obi strip, it raises the value by thousands!

On rare, collectible '60s Japanese vinyl presses, the obi can represent 50% or more of the value of the piece. Kind of insane, but true.

I guess "OBI OCD" translates as:

    Object Bearing Intense
    Overvalued Collector's Desire

I believe it. It's crazy, but, on the other hand, it's "the complete package," and that means a lot to many people.

I used to know a guy who called it an "obi strap". But really, it's supposed to be just the one word, no strip or strap attached to it.

I know what you mean with the OCD.

I have 4 or 5 Pink Floyd JPN LPs, 2 of them I bought with no OBI and it was eating at me.
I found a high res pic of each OBI on the Pink Floyd archives site, threw them on a thumb drive, and had my local Staples print them out to my requested size on a quality paper.
Then I just cut and glued them together. They look beautiful, and exactly like the original.
    I'm satisfied. :D

I'd never sell them, and if I did, would never pass them off as genuine.

I will admit here that I recycled over 15o J-Cards from Mofi releases. Is this as bad as throwing out the Obi's?

obi strips are just another way for collectors to show off the size of their obsession. i'm gonna go find all the obis in my collection and put them in the burn pile.

JRiver Cover scans with Obi are helpful in distinguishing the item as the Japan pressing vs other pressings I may have in the jukebox.

I remember long ago shopping in Tokyo asking myself why I would want the same USA titles just wrapped in an obi. I didn't appreciate the mastering differences and collectibility then.

I would never throw out an obi but if the price is right I'm happy with an old used title without.

Understood that mate, I do as well but I read someone say they tossed the obi strip away , if your a collector and you import regularly from Japan or anywhere you understand the collective aspect as well as the music.
