One of a small number of Jazz CDs I have. Most are on vinyl. This one never got issued as a record though it came out in the mid 1980s. An original Japan CD with very good sonics for the time. One of his best IMO.

it's funny. sometimes when i listen to this i think 'how old fashioned and boring'. other times, like today, i think 'how timeless and lovely'. this is surely a paradigm that other listeners wrestle with from time to time.

What do you think of it Lon?

I'm digging it. Moran, Pattituci, Harland. That's it for accompaniment. Guy sounds a little like a Joe Williams for this century. He slips a bit here and there because he ain't grizzled yet, but he keeps right on these slow grooves which ain't easy. REALLY nice recording.

yeah, i snagged it too. have yet to spend any real time with it, but it sounds like a progression from his prior work - at least to my taste.

trying to match lon's coverart size.
couldn't help sticking with my prestige-miles-non-first-great-quintet theme. 'quintet/sextet' was sounding so choice and then *poof* it ended...

So is that a good thing? I was not familiar with him at all until someone (perhaps you?) posted that album cover which is a great homage (IMO) to classic Blue Notes and drew my interest.

Progression is improvement in this case imo. I haven't heard full albums from him before but I like this one more than other bits I've heard.

I certainly agree that progression is improvement, but progression from dreck to so-so doesn't say much. :nyah: No offense intended to Jose, just not familiar with his work, although I have enjoyed the songs from this album I've heard on Youtube, and also the mini "making of" video on there as well.
