Any comments on recent Jeff Beck Remasters? I have the old Mofi gold CD of "Wired", which is a nice transfer - I'm just wondering how the more recent (2001) Sony Legacy remaster compares with the Mofi.

I'm also curious about the 2001 Sony reissue of "Blow By Blow" - I wonder how it compares with the Sony MasterSound reissue of some years ago. I assume it is not the same remastering job, but details on the packaging are sketchy. The Mofi Blow By Blow is very nice, not as bright or loud as the Sony MasterSound, as I recall.

I have never seen the remastered versions of Truth and Beckola - but here in Australia, we sometimes miss out on these things.

pity. i have these titles and they sound very good for the era ('68-'69), although the drums sound a little boxy at times; a result of experimental multiple micing techniques, possibly.

i can't imagine these titles being unavailabe in OZ, particularly if you're seeing remasters of "blow by blow" and "wired" in the bins.

Regarding Blow by Blow, the only versions I've heard are the late-'80s Epic CD and the SACD versions. I'm glad I skipped everything in between.

Paul,I've seen them in import shops,if you live in Sydney, check out Red Eye Records(Shop 1)in the city or else try Yesterday and Today Records out at Church Street,Parramatta I can't remember which one it was it could've been both. The main reason I think that you can't get the first 2 Beck albums are because as I understand it when Beck joined the Yardbirds he and the others were also signed as solo artists so since the Yardbirds were on EMI in the UK and the rest of the world and Epic in the US so was his solo stuff.I still have the original 1990 EMI version which put Truth/Beck-ola on 1 CD with extra colour photos and liner notes by John Tobler or Chris Welch(can't remember..)but unfortunately it has been mastered using No-Noise as the big red logo on the back cover says.Packaging wise it was superior to the old Epics and I don't think they put liner notes in this time either but then I didn't look but they are in these stores because I have seen 'em also I just remembered try Utopia Records in George St opposite the (the used to be )Village cinemas they will 99% sure have'em and they specialise in metal but are a great import shop.

Thanks... Yes, Cousin It, I think you explanation is the answer - the fact that Truth and Beckola are EMI titles in the UK, and hence here in Australia. Anyway, I will chase them up through one of the stores you suggested, or perhaps the new Borders store which has just opened here in Adelaide.

Greg, I have no doubt that the SACD version of Blow By Blow is very good - would make an interesting comparison with the Mofi, no?

I would still like to know how the 2001 Sony remaster of "Wired" sounds - could it be the current definitive version on silver disc?

    Paul,
You may/may not find it at Border's depends if they don't care about pissing EMI off. Those Border's stores are superb,I've only ever seen one in Singapore and it was great, they had armchairs where you could sit down and read books without buying, what a shock!! They would've run you out of town here for that. When I was there they had a few DCC discs in stock at about the S$52 mark,I bought the Sinatra '57 Live one and the Capitol remastered The Band 2CD Rock Of Ages for S$25,some prices were considerably cheaper over there than they were locally, others vice-versa ya gotta check and compare.
