I'm feeling REALLY ANNOYED that all these Jethro Tull releases have the 5.1 only available in DVD quality DTS.

Is it really so hard to work out that many of the collectors are wanting something better quality as is given to us with the Yes remixes (with the choice o DVD-Audio or Blu-Ray).

    Listening to Hi-Rez 5.1 isn't a rare event anymore - I've got over a 1,000 movies in 5.1 Hi-Rez on blu-ray.

Isn't it sad that the audio of movies is now better quality that Tull?

Given the choice I'd also prefer lossless surround, but we have compared properly decoded 24/96 DTS and the lossless mixes and they were very, very close. Lossless is very slightly tighter and more precise.
If you haven't the original lossless on hand to check, you probably would not notice the difference.

Dissapointed here...this has almost the same set list as the 2CD edition. Where are the other alternate tracks listed in the 2011 edition booklet?

What I really would like to know is, whether the last 3 tracks from the 2nd CD/DVD actually got remixed this time as opposed to the 2011 remastered versions. Dr Bogenbroom, From Later and Nursie all aren't listed as remasters this time so yeah, guess we'll find out soon.

And that book is lookin' gorgeous!

Probably just a bad copy/paste job. Note how they don't mention surround mixes, a flat transfer or video.

So what do we think the odds are of getting a reissue of TAAB in book format?

Unfortunately for me I do notice a difference. So I manage my listening and watching so that I try not to move down in quality. CD sounds fine - then move to hi-rez and it sounds better. But going from hi-rez to CD has the CD sounding, as you say, less tight and not quite there.

The last time this was very apparent to me was after listening to the hi-rez of Opeth's Deliverance and then trying the 5.1 surround track. Surround was great but it all lacked presence. I stopped listening because it didn't sound right. What I have to do, and have not yet done, it listen to the 5.1 DTS without having listened to hi-rez first. Then I expect I'll be able to enjoy the surround mix.

This shows one reason why the music industry is in trouble. It's trivial for me to buy most movies with not only 1080p picture but with hi-rez lossless 5.1 sound, and all for less than the price of yet another purchase of Aqualung.

I don't doubt that many people can't hear the difference between a DVD quality DTS movie soundtrack and a lossless hi-rez. But I can.

And that goes a fair way to explaining why most of my money now goes towards movies and music on blu-ray.

No Mew mastering of the 5.1 & remixed stereo is the main news here. The flat transfer of the original mix is fixed. All glitches from the previous set are gone.

    My work is done.

But here you have compared two different mixes: stereo & 5.1. I was talking about the same mixes lossless vs. full-bitrate DTS (no question Dolby is less transparent).
Anyway, I agree the difference can be heard, but it still minimal.

So, just in terms of content, what is the difference between this and the original box set?

If I get this - which I will - is there a reason to keep the original box?

I don't know but I hope, just for the sake of getting the physical product right, that they do.

Having said that I am sure that many people would be justifiably annoyed that they had to double dip.

(I know there are corrected downloads out there but that doesn't do it for me.)

Looks like only a few different mixes for a few songs. The novelty here is mostly the SW master.
