RIP. He likely left behind some incredible Hendrix artifacts. If not for him, fans never would have received "Machine Gun: The First Fillmore East Show 12/31/69" from the master tapes.

Just listened to Eddie Kramer on BBC6 music talking about the Hollywood Bowl show. He says it was recorded by somebody on a little tape machine. He also said it sounded rough and he had to go in and tweak it to make it sound better. Doesn't sound like a soundboard source to me. Could this just be the audience source we already know? I guess we'll have to wait to see.

Assuming it is a mono I would not be surprised if tweak = treble on the L/bass on the R fake stereo.

The big news in here is the debut of Angel Caterina with Buddy and Stephen Stills (around the 1:54 mark). Sounds amazingly cool, runs around 5 minutes. Thinking about how what's here was transformed into what's on the album, what could have been done with Somewhere if he'd decided to concentrated on it like this (OK, it was reworked into Earth Blues to some extent, but that's what struck me upon first listen).

Well, it's been out on boots for decades. No big news to me.

Never came across it. A bunch of other 1983s yes, but not this one.

The fact they've let this one out now means some other stuff is bound to follow. I doubt we'll get some kind of full stream listen to either the Outtakes/Demos disc or the Hollywood Bowl (it's out there anyway), but you never know.

If it is not a substantial upgrade, it will make the omission of so much studio outtake material that much more aggravating.

Especially since he strongly hints there's more stuff still in the vaults they'd look to release. :waiting:

It's the exact same take that has circulated for decades. Better sound though, that's a plus.

    Yes indeed.

I just don't understand how anyone could have thought that this particular package would be the appropriate vehicle in which to debut this Hollywood Bowl recording -- ostensibly displacing truly pertinent material to a landmark release of this seminal album.

    I'm still baffled.

WTH? They're making us buy the frigging old audience tape? In that case...
