John Cale has never felt like a cash grab sort of guy to me. It's not like he's performing the same 20 songs for 30 years like many of the sainted bands here do. Why shouldn't he celebrate a seminal album that he had a vital hand in creating?

Same here. I just wish he would do a better job with his advertising. The Paris 1919 shows a few years ago at BAM came and went without my knowledge. I'm assuming any future Cale shows will be there, so I signed up for their e-mail newsletter.

I just checked the BAM site and there's nothing mentioned yet as far as tickets or even a show. My guess is sometime in the New Year if it's happening there.

News of a NY show will probably come out on Cale's twitter page first, he has a facebook page too which carries up to date news.

That's usually up to the promoters. I think the French VU&N gig last year would have been well enough attended, hence the repeat here.

I don't know if you're joking but Yule should absolutely be involved. He's on as much VU material as Cale is!

No reason. I also think it's chance for him to personally revisit it after the workman-like 1992/3 shows which Reed strangled.

Having said that I see no reason to attend these kinds of 'celebratory' feel-good events where stars effectively do fluffy or mawkish covers versions of songs I love. If it was just Cale, it would be better. He did a good version of Venus in Furs live in recent years.

At least there's a cure for hearing someone like Beck slaughter the VU&N album. I play the original and it wipes out the memory.

Or Tony Visconti playing Bowie songs... wait, no, I wouldn't go to that.

But he's not on the first album. Maybe Yule should do his own Loaded concert?

Cale would choose Chance the Rapper before Yule.

I re-read the BBC article and this does not look like any sort of a reunion concert. I suspect Cale will just hire the backing musicians and vocalists he thinks are appropriate (with input of sorts from Laurie Anderson).

With Lou, Sterling, and Nico dead, I don't think anyone expected a reunion scenario. I'd also be surprised if Laurie has any input but that might be cool.

Whatever the case, I'd like to go if prices aren't too outrageous.

I knew Reed was dead, but I did not know about the others.

Though I don't know their names, I thought the band he had for his 2005 concerts (I saw him at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY) was just fine. He started the concert with an excellent rendition of Venus in Furs (much like the 2016 video posted earlier).

Well, nor were anyone playing the show besides Cale and possibly Mo Tucker. At least he was in the band!

word is he's gonna ditch the viola on Nico's tunes and come out in a blond wig and bang a tambourine out of time and go all Teutonic on the crowd.

I'm not sure. I'm just saying she's the only other person alive who played on the album.

If he did his own Squeeze concert I might get tempted to see how loaded I'd have to get to sit through it.

Would Doug Yule be prepared to dress up for the performance, i get the impression he's a jeans and sweatshirt kinds guy whilst Cale's more fashion icon.
