Rock is like classical these days in that concerts are now interpretations of music composed long ago.

    Orchestras are Beethoven tribute acts.

So I imagine Cale will interpret VU and N rather than try just to reproduce it.

I saw him get half way through Waiting For the Man before slamming his hands on the keyboard and screaming that he was bored with it.

Myself I'd go to see him do a full Slow Dazzle.

Cale has asked Moe to appear with him at the Liverpool show, and her reply was "No"

Dougie could get Ian Paice on drums. As Ian don't remember playing on the album he'd probably have difficulties remembering his parts though.

Yep. Cale doesn't do cash grabs, or if he does it doesn't show as he always brings something new to the table.

Cale promises the Liverpool show will be different to the Paris one. There's some kinda Lou Reed tribute element in the May concert

I have two tickets for the Liverpool gig this May and was really looking forward to a week end out in my old haunts in the city... but my sister has just invited me to her wedding so it's a tough call as I have never seen John Cale and would love to hear him play the VUs and I have been to my sister's wedding before!

But I guess it will have to be......

    :D

Cale's old band played weddings occasionally...maybe you can arrange to combine the two events. :).

For someone who lives in California, he sure does spend a lot of time performing outside the US.

Cale hasn't toured since 2012, he seems content to play a few high profile one off shows each year, he'll be 75 at the Liverpool show

The Gene Clark revival show was fantastic. Followed the album closely and the players went note for note with singing sounding wonderfully close to the original. I would hope for the same.

I'll have to look into that. I might see how much it is to become a member, but I won't pay for performances by others I normally would not go to. It reminds me of the hassle for getting a ticket to Ohio State vs Rutgers. They try to sell you season tickets first and only allow for individual tickets much later.

I've a feeling that's what this is. They're using it to sell tickets for the out of town Hamilton shows. Buy a subscription and then you get to buy a ticket for the show you want to see. I get that there are severe budget cuts going on and local arts venues need to get people in the seats, but I'm not gonna pop for a bunch of shows I have no interest in. Hope I'm wrong about the Cale show.

I doubt BAM is hurting for government subsidies and other charitable contributions (about $35 million in 2016), though the various budgets for the upcoming fiscal years (state and city, July 1, and federal, October 1, I think) could change. I think it is just a new gimmick for making money. I don't like it, but cannot say there's anything wrong with it. You are either well-heeled and can pay or you can sit at home and listen to your John Cale albums. I usually fall into the latter category, unfortunately. I'll have to see what other events they have.

Cale played a new song at BAM called "Pretty People" a track from his forthcoming album. If i was to describe its genre i'd say "gospel funk"...i kid you not.
