    ... and it's right John Cleese »

The Rigella story sounds like it was cut from Ronnie Barker, but this has to be a very positive move.

Does Cleese have financial problems? IIRC, he made boatloads of money doing corporate training videos.

He's still occasionally funny, but he does come across as a bit of a cranky old man nowadays (which he is!)

My two cents on Cleese not being funny anymore is: The Pythons peaked early, and had a relatively short span of time between comedy at University and comedy on BBC(and Associated Rediffusion and Thames). Comedy had not been a life's ambition for them, and they didn't have to go around knocking on doors. On the other hand, performers like the Two Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise had a longer and harder time breaking in, and that's probably why they stuck with comedy longer than the Pythons, who basically got lost to comedy in the 90s.

I think it was performed on THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS, or it could have been another pre-Python venue.

Never found him funny in the first place. Nowadays, he is just a parody of himself - and an unfunny one at that.

Well, if you never found him funny in the first place, then your opinion about whether or not he's funny now doesn't really carry much weight.

I do think 'you had to be there' for the full effect of all the TW3/Do not adjust your set/at last the 1948 show/marty feldman/Python/fawlty towers etc.

I recall being allowed up late to watch Python, on occasion, though some of it was clearly too adult for a 12YO. My college TV room(s) (there's a thing!) were packed for the first Fawlty Towers run, with everyone literally ROFL at the sign anagrams.

There may not be any more like that, though BBC radio (especially Punt and Dennis) had a fair run later with similar staff and comical absurdity.
