John Hiatt's "Beneath this gruff exterior

    As a long time Hiatt fan, I'm struggling with his new album and - even worse - I'm not sure why.

    Just to make life even better, I'm supposed to be writing a review of the album for a magazine.

    So I'd appreciate some thoughts and comments on the album (musically and sonically) which might help clear up my state of confusion.

    Hiatt fans, the stage is yours....

    I think there was a short thread on this just before the album came out. I got a review copy as well and loved it.
