  1. Indeed. But, I've seen the ad a couple of times and also think it could be OK. We'll find out the general consensus soon enough...

I don't want it to be bad. It's just that the signs are there. Still no reviews at RT.

johnny depp is, without a doubt, the most overrated actor of all time.

Looking at the trailer it looks like an amusing little movie.
It would be nice if Depp would venture into something more dark again; he can be quite funny (I loved him the Dark Shadows), but he's getting predictable in in his choice of roles. Maybe in the movies that are in production at the moment (Black Mass and London Fields, both thrillers) will change his situation somewhat.

It just looks awful. Why is the trailer so lame? That is usually a bad sign.

Because we enjoy failure and misery.

The commercials remind me of a British comedy from the '50s.

Couldn't care less. I'd rather see Depp try different things, like this, than play the pirate again. The first movie was great. A lot of fun. Not a single one of the three that followed left me feeling like it was worth the 3 hours.

There have been some fine British comedies in that era! :)

Holy crap, it's 6% now on RT. I'm not sure even Adam Sandler ever got that low a rating.

I agree 100%. I actually liked the first Pirates movie but was steadily more and more bewildered and unamused with the subsequent sequels.

I really like many of his earlier movies. But man... the dude will do anything for a paycheck and an excuse to dress up like a clown and talk weird. Tim Burton too... the guy was great early on and then... what happened?

I saw Ed Wood the other day for the first time in a long time. Such a great movie. Weird... but with so much heart.

He's probably raking in the big cash while it's good and his 'youthful looks' are holding. I don't blame him.

I can see him 'retiring' in the next 5 years.

Yeah, that was my link. It was stated that Adam Sandler may not have had a movie that ranked below the then-6% of "Mortdecai", so I linked one that was lower...

I dunno, she may be easy on the eyes, but judging from her short stint on the Daily Show, she's not even remotely funny. This movie looks pretty bad, but hey, the Onion's A/V Club gave it a decent review.
