    Holy moley! :righton:

Dang those records sure were jammed with hits, weren't they? I vaguely recall seeing some of them way back when...they had like 11 or 12 tracks per side, didn't they? On virgin vinyl, no doubt....he he.

That was amazing! The Eddy Arnold ad was the first time I'd ever heard "Make the World Go Away"--what a great song!

Thanks for the flashback! :righton:

I loved K-Tel albums...they started me on this insane record collecting phase I've been in since I was 10.:D

Today's NOW collections pale in comparison to many of these classic K-Tel comps.

I remember radio commercials in the 1960s. Are any of those in their archive?

Great stuff, Lisa. More, please! Would love to hear the ad for "20 Explosive Hits" vol. 1. That was the first K-Tel record I ever bought. Thanks!

I can't get the clips to load in either Netscape or Internet Explorer, even though I do have QuickTime installed. Are the clips currently unavailable or is something screwed up on my end?

Guys, when you go to her page you will either see the quicktime logo or the pictures of the albums themselves. If you see the QT logo double click on it and it will load then double click on the images to play them.

I see the Quicktime logo for a split second and then have five white boxes with no pictures or logos.

When I double click on a white area the Quicktime logo appears. A click on the "play" arrow then makes it look like a clip is downloading, but when the streaming finishes all I get is playback of an empty box with no sound (the button on the bottom of the box moves slowly from left to right, as if something is playing, but there is no picture or sound).

    K-Tel Chick,

I was all set to relive a part of my life from the early 70s, and here is all I got. The clip starts to download, the picture starts up a bit then freezes, and the progress bar slides as if it's playing with no sound. I went to check if my Quicktime player was functioning OK and it is.

Well, if you get it all strraightened out, can you get "Hit Explosion", "Super Bad", and "Super Bad Is Back"?

    Here is what I saw:

Hmm, I just played them all again with no video problems. In fact one of the pictures didn't load and I had to click the QT logo and then wait while it loaded and then played perfectly. I can't tell you if the audio is or isn't working because I don't have audio on my PC.

Lisa, that was uncommonly generous of them to do. I can't see the commercials you posted as I only have a dial up connection but can tell from the responses that it is something else. Lisa, you mention Winnipeg, and I've always suspected K-Tel as being a Canadian company but were they not also located in Montreal? If you look on the back of some of those Lps you will see them as listed on St. Jaques street, which is right near my place.

I loaded the clips fine. The problem is not on Lisa's end.

Must be some computer thang since I downloaded the latest Quicktime but that didn't help.

Is your DirectX turned off maybe or is it exclusive to Lisa's site?

My Direct-X and Quicktime works just fine.

I would try it on my wife's PC except that she doesn't want me to install a Quicktime player. Don't know why.

Are you still on dial-up Grant? This could be why it is freezing as I think it might be for broadband only. I used to have similar problems with video signals when I was on dial-up.

I am on dial-up as well, and the clips do not play. I know my QuickTime installation is current -- and working.

Lisa, any chance of modifying your page to allow downloads of the clips to the hard drive ("Save Target As...") instead of streaming only?

Asking stupidly: How can I tell if my DirectX is turned off?

I don't view video Quicktime flicks with any regularity, so I cannot tell you the last time it worked on my machine. Maybe something isn't configured correctly on the PC I bought late last year.

I have a DSL connection so bandwidth shouldn't be an issue for me.

Check in your add/remove programs Jeff. If it's installed and working you can always cancel if it starts to uninstall, if not it will install. In mine it says "Microsoft DirectX Transform optional components".

In the security settings in "tools" at the top of your IE browser click Custom and make sure ActiveX controls are operational.
