For the sake of full disclosure, I do believe that the performances on 3-D: The Catalogue have their vocal performances overdubbed.

I did an A/B comparison of the instrumental performance in the song Radioactivity/Radioaktivität, from 4:00-4:31. This particular section normally contains some level of improvisation in the performance, however in this instance they're virtually identical. This leads me to believe that the instrumental performances between the two language releases are the same, only the singing is overdubbed into the appropriate language. This doesn't mean that the instrumental performances weren't performed live, as it would be very easy to take direct instrument sends from the concerts and overdub vocals later. I believe that's the case in this release, however I'm only speculating of course.

Clearly the older stuff has benefitted from this release.

The older stuff is unaffected by this release. These performances are just new renditions. Just like any other band that tours and rearrange their stuff.

    No more no less.

It is not like the original versions will be deleted.

I've overlaid some of the tracks with performances from the Paridiso live, and they match up note for note with those.
I have no problem believing they took it from live performances.

See my previous postings for examples.

The ONLY track that is different from the english to the german is radioactivity.
It is also WRONG on the german CD set, the correct track is on the mix CD.

On the original album the ONLY difference between the german and english versions are the track titles.

Saw it today but... wow.... it certainly comes with a hefty price tag. I mean.... it's like 23€ per album which is okay but there are eight of 'em in there. And I can't bring myself to shell out for a live set. At least not yet.

BTW, on the German Blu-ray set "Radioaktivität" seems to be the correct (Korrekt!) version. At least it starts with the spoken "Radioaktivität" in German.

I just received my copy of 3-D Der Katalog and yes, the version of Radioactivity / Radioaktivität on the 3-D album itself (disc 2) appears to be the English-language edition. However, it's only partially so. If you're familiar with the live version they've been playing in recent years, you'll know that they start the song in a style closer to the original version, then halfway through switch to a variation of the dancier version that's on The Mix. Well on this disc (at least on my copy anyway), the vocals for the first half are in German with a switch to English for the second half. I saw them twice on this tour (Harlem, NY and Boston, MA) but I don't remember hearing them switch up the languages mid-song as it sounds on this disc. Given that this is my favorite song of theirs, I'm kinda psyched that I now have a 3-D tour version of the track in both languages. I'm inclined to count this error as a serendipitous extra bonus.
EDIT: Making my way through the disc and Radioland is also dual-language. Is this just how they were performing the album at the German dates?

Thanks for the info. Interesting. Are the vocals and the vocoder voice both in German for the first half? A dual language version is not that bad, after all 'Man-Machine' and 'Neon Lights' were performed that way in the past, and I really liked that.
Curious though if the version on the English box is also dual-language.

Radioactivity is half japanese half english. The japanese half sounds really eerie. Amongst all the words i don't understand comes Fukushima. Terrifying and great.

    The Japanese lyrics in Radioactivity:

    日本でも 放射能
    Nihon demo Houshanou
    きょうも いつまでも
    Kyoumo itsumademo
    フクシマ 放射能
    Fukushima Houshanou
    空気 水 すべて
    Kuuki Mizu Subete
    日本でも 放射能
    Nihon demo Houshanou
    いますぐ やめろ
    Imasugu Yamero

    Translation:

    There's radioactivity also in Japan
    Today and Forever
    Fukushima Radioactivity
    Air Water Everything

    There's radioactivity also in Japan
    Stop Right Now

It's also worth noting that the Japanese lyrics were written by Ryuichi Sakamoto of Yellow Magic Orchestra, the Japanese contemporary to Kraftwerk.

Also, 'Catalogue' is half English-half Japanese, and 'Katalog' half German-half English? Or did I miss something?

From what I've heard, both versions contain the first half in Japanese, and the second half in the respective language of the box set.

Right. Maurice says his copy starts in German and then switches to English. I take it/hope that he doesn't mistake Japanese for German?

I'll have to admit that it's possible, I don't have a great ear for languages I don't speak...

It would make sense. If both boxes have the track in Japanese-English, then the German Katalog version is indeed a mispressing.

What is a reasonable price for the blu ray set IYO (and what was the best pre order price)? I was thinking around under 100 pounds might be of interest (would prefer 80 pounds, 10 per album).
