I've never heard of James Blunt preventing WW III.

I have, quite often through the years, heard people propose how important the Beatles were in Global matters.

The power of music and liberation.

But are they more influential than Foghat? That's what I want to know.

John is heard stating that the only reason they did these two songs in German was because, initially, the Germans insisted on it.

Ha, thanks! The funny thing is that there are a lot of people on this forum who make me look like a newbie! That is why I love it here so much; there are so many passionate and knowledgable people.

Looking back through my list, I am annoyed that I forgot Stereolab.

It would be nice, and it's such an easy solution.
The front page would be free from threads devoted to Macca's undies.
Alas, it will fall on deaf ears, as all forms of silly Beatles obsession is encouraged here it seems.

The Beatles influenced the way music was recorded, written, formatted and how it's viewed. Kraftwerk are just an afterthought and basically forgotten. The Beatles influenced every genre of pop and rock music that came after them. Even members of Kraftwerk who were influenced by The Beatles have admitted in terms of tape looping and sampling The Beatles were important in mainstreaming these things in pop music.

I know for some it's difficult to admit to this.

You guys are clueless in my opinion.

    Oh
Are you seriously saying Kraftwerk was more influential than The Beatles in the areas I mentioned?

It might have something more to do with you dismissing one of the most progressive & important musical act of modern times that had a huge hand in shaping many styles that are incredibly popular today as an afterthought, but that's just a guess.

I didn't start this thread. However, it's annoying that The Beatles huge influence in the areas I mention are basically being dismissed by some of the posters here.

For example The Beach Boys and The Beatles had a far more impact on the use of studio as an instrument than Kraftwerk. We are only talking one of many areas The Beatles had a huge impact on music.

Must be angry Kraftwerk fans seeing their beloved artist have their work dragged through the mud by a few Beatle fans here. Thing is, and the whole point a lot of people are trying to make is that they are incredibly influential, so much so that they are one of the few worthy acts who could compare to the Beatles in terms of influence goes. Everyone & their mothers are more than aware of everything the Beatles did & why they are important & resonate with many even today. I don't think this was supposed to be a v.s. type thing, but that's where these things inevitably end up.

The best thing about this thread is the guidance it provides on whom to ignore.

The worst thing about this thread is that it's increasingly confusing, the more members I ignore.

However, the same people who are being dismissive of The Beatles are completely clueless to not know songs like "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "I Am The Walrus" were pioneering influences on electronic/pop/rock music

You are correct I should have not been so dismissive about Kraftwerk.

I'm actually a little skeptical on Kraftwerk's singular influence (per my previous post on this thread, in light of precedents like Gershon Kingsley's Popcorn, and even contemporaneous artists like Giorgio Moroder). But those Beatles songs you mention don't even cross over with the realm of "electronic" music.
