saw danny seraphine & bill champlin, will champlin & marc bonilla CTA last saturday. played over 2 hours. superb performances, sound and energy. much better than current chicago. before that was the best show i have ever seen esperanza spalding
Johnny Lang and ZZ Top, Sandia Casino outdoor amphitheater, had a blast. Lang tore it up and ZZ Top were ZZ Top.
Neko Case in a small club in Detroit. No Kelly but full band. Stood within two feet of her during performance . Sublime and amazing. Unreal singer, voice was clear as crystal. Chills were induced. Had a chance to talk to her before show, my daughter who went with me had the smarts to tell me to be cool and just keep walking. I followed her advice because I was destined to make an ass of myself outta sheer star struck and awe.
Bonnie Raitt, Tennessee Theater, Knoxville, TN, October 25, 2016. Center Orchestra Pit, 2 rows from the stage. Sound was incredible, band was incredible, Bonnie was incredible!! She is still an incredible tiny fiery red-headed dynamo - beautiful singer and awesome guitar player as always.
It was a Wiggles concert when I was like eight and the Wiggles had all of it's original members. It was pretty lit.
World Party last year. There couldn't have been more than 60 people in the club. But no matter, Karl and the boys put on a spirited show.
Benmont Tench at McCabe's. 150 seats, solo performance with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboard player. Full 90 minute set, first and only stop for him at this legendary venue (thus far).
parquet courts at showbox in seattle. i drank too much whiskey on an empty stomach and had to sit down for a few minutes. got back up and had a great time. great band.
This was also my most recent concert: saw EC at the Warner in DC last Thursday. I liked the show, though probably not as much as Favre508. I've seen EC 20+ times since 1983 and think he's mostly okay as a live performer. I love a lot of his studio work and thought the show had a great setlist - so much "Imperial Bedroom" and other obscurities - but he just doesn't consistently ring my bell as a live performer...
Saw Beck this September at IU Auditorium [Indiana]..with my 16 year old daughter and her friend..I'm 53. Was freaking one of the best times I've had at a concert. Guy can put on a super show with great backing band and music. Loved it
Lenny Kaye at Rutgers University earlier this afternoon in celebration of Rutgers 250th anniversary. Included 7 songs and lecture/talk about music and his time at Rutgers in the 60s recalling Link Cromwell & The Zoo and other events. Lots of fun.
Overkill, Prong and Municipal Waste @ the Starland Ballroom in NJ, Sept. of 2014 ... It was my first Overkill gig since the early 90s and it did my heart good to see that they were still crushing it all these years later. I was so pumped afterwards that I wrote a blog about the show as soon as I got home that night, because that's what aging metal nerds do. Sloan at Brighton Music Hall in Boston. They played the album One Chord To Another and another set of "hits". Fun show and I got to pick up the album on vinyl.
Charles Bradley at the Chapel in San Francisco. I went in there really expecting to love it, but it was a real disappointment, to be honest. Everything was dragging and mid-tempo, the band was musically proficient but not particularly soulful. There just wasn't much energy at all. Having seen his labelmate Sharon Jones, Bradley pales in comparison.
Teenage Fanclub Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland October 20 It was Norman Blake's birthday. The vocal mix was a little off the whole night but they are so fantastic it didn't matter. Love this band to pieces and I will give my money to see them whenever I can.
St. Motel with Jr. Jr. at the Great American Music Hall a couple of months ago. Pretty sure my wife and I were the two oldest people still awake at the end of the show, which started at 9pm and featured three bands (forgot the name of the opener) ;-) Both bands were lots of fun, and it is a great venue to see a show.
The Cure in Atlanta, GA. Excellent. In true Hotlanta form, the heat made Robert Smith exclaim, "It's so ****ing hot!"
10/1/16: These Arches Ches Smith's band with Ches on drums/vibraphone Tim Berne: alto saxophone Herb Robertson: trumpet Devin Hoff: electric bass Mary Halvorsen: guitar Andrea Parkins: accordion/sampler Two incredible sets @ The Stone
