    The story was that the Mondello kid's parents were a nightmare to deal with, so basically the producers fired him and the family moved back home to Philadelphia. Interestingly, the actor made an appearance in the 1983 Still the Beaver TV movie.

    There've been a few cases where TV kids got quietly fired and replaced because of stuff like that. I think that happened with the original Eddie Munster from the Munsters pilot, and it also happened to one of the Partridge Family kids.
