When I saw the thread title, I thought maybe we had a medium on the board transmitting messages from JL, e.g.,
"Tell Revolver Records to stop putting the watermarks on the rare videos - I can't see me face properly!"
"Tell Paul I was the avant-garde Beatle - not him - that should set him off!"
"Why is that Pipes of Peace reissue thread 300 pages long??"
"Two Virgins appreciation thread - where is it??"
    And so on.

. . . not unlike spending a lifetime carping about the Beatles or Glenn Miller or anything else you "can't stand."

I don't see what's sad about it. It makes lots of people happy to inhabit those special moments in memory that can lift them out of the humdrum of everyday existence. Like the Beatles music and story has done so well and often, for me and countless others. I'm not exaggerating when I say the joy they bring is one of those things that makes life worthwhile. John Lennon is right, too, that it is a fantasy. But it's one I'll keep and treasure all my life. It's not a negative or restricting kind of thing at all, to me. Maybe it was at times, for John, I don't know.

I'm not sure if I'm making my point clear. I assume that almost everyone has things in their lives that are very special -experiences above the ordinary that serve as markers and generate ongoing deep interest or affection. That doesn't mean they derail other essential things.

I like John Lennon's music a great deal, but his thinking (if one interprets it this way) that he is the arbiter of when I pick up and put down the "hippie dream" is totally off base. "Just because it's over for you, don't mean it's over for me", to quote Neil Young. I believe I have a pretty firm grip on not confusing the value of the mountain of Beatle minutia that I know, with the value of the impact their music had on helping to form who I turned out to be.

I think it's men and women.
For instance New Kids on the Block had such a successful tour recently, with (I'm sure) the average ticket buyer having been a female in Junior High in 1988-90.

I don't think that can be considered living in the past, at least compared to SHF standards.

John Lennon himself listened to music of his teen years. My teen music is from the 90s and I still love it. But it's not always about living in the past.

It seems you can't stop posting in Beatles or related threads! Very strange phenomenon don't you think? Living in the past?

    1) George would have had Paul's baby. (probably named Mhax.)
    2) Bread ---- You can't make a sandwich out of a Beatle.

Ummmm, in comparison, this 4 page thread is just a wink compared to the "Dylan - Cutting Edge" thread.
Take a peek at that monstrosity of 179 pages!!! And counting.

With all due respect, after even thinking about digesting that one, this thread can't even Break Wind - let alone breaking the Forum...
