Couldn't find this topic already listed when I searched for it, so here goes:

Throw out some songs you consider catchy and well fashioned pop ditties, but are not the ones you'd see on Wings Greatest

I'm not that familiar with their deep cuts, but I really love the style and execution on "Getting Closer" and "I've Had Enough"

    thx!

"Getting Closer" and "I've Had Enough" were actually both top 25 singles in the US, but they're largely forgotten among non-diedhards, methinks!

Spin It On is my favorite Wings track, and Winter Rose is pretty high up in my favorites as well, I doubt either would find space on a "best of" track list for the average Wings fan.

I've had enough made it to 25 on Billboard but as I recall received very little airplay in the NY/metro area when it was released
So you could have missed that one for sure.

Getting Closer made it to 20 and received more exposure since it was the first single from Back to the Egg.
Must have been a big disappointment for Paul since it was the first time a lead off single from a McCartney album did not crack the top 10.

Here's one I've always loved: The only released Wings track with lead vocal by drummer Joe English, written by McCartney. Lovely song --

I've always really liked this one. some of the harmonies are kind of unusual:

wings, 'I am your singer,' (from wild life, 1971)
also from wild life: 'some people never know.'

I was a big Macca guy back in 1978 and I don't even recall "I've Had Enough" being a single.

I think people viewed "Goodnight Tonight" as the lead-off from "Egg". So what if it wasn't actually on the album? :D

    Definitely a nice song.

Of course, last year we got the official release of the version with Paul's vocal:

Both of them got a reasonable amount of airplay in the Cleveland radio market, although Goodnight Tonight more so of the two. Boy, was I relieved when Goodnight Tonight wasn't on Egg... and especially that the album wasn't that style of music at all. :D

I love "Soily", but the "WOA" version is the only way to go! :righton:

I remember both, I had "I've Had Enough" on single. It seemed like it was going to be a big hit and then it wasn't. In retrospect it was a bit corny.

Hey, Queen had a hit with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" in roughly the same time frame, and it has a similar vibe! :)

From Back To The Egg I like the track "To You" (although I've wondered how it might have fared if they did another version with less screaming and a more conventional guitar solo).

The idea of a "lesser known" Wings song on a board that's devoted pages of discussion to "Mumbo" is a little baffling!

    To R E Faust:

Yes, "Love In Song" is a goodie.

To hear the full intro you still have to play it off the flip of the "Listen To What The Man Said" 45...

True. But everything on WOA is better than the original.

And I swear, I have no memory of I've Had Enough being a single, or getting airplay.

"Beware My Love" may be the best thing on Wings At The Speed Of Sound (not counting how "Silly Love Songs" begins by sounding like Pink Floyd and ends up sounding like Barry White).
