For Backhaus, I only have the following Beethoven Piano Sonatas box, his Brahms Piano Concerto with Bohm and two Naxos Historical recordings. All in all, I am still not that familiar with his playing compared with Kempff ...
I have noticed on a reply, some previously attached image may not show up. When you reply again, you end up with two images but five images is a first for me ...
My box does not even have the rubber foam and the two records are in absolutely pristine condition, as is the box itself ...
Don't have this recording but am familiar with Veronique Gens as she is the soprano in many of the Bach Passions conducted by the Philippe Herreweghe in my collection ...

She is one of my favorite lyric singers. She sung Rosina on the Figaro by Jacobs SACD which is one of the best CD of the opera. Also, her SACD of Chants d'Auvergne is so sweet and seductive. Highly recommended.
The sound quality on this box is very good, Decca were able to record a nice full bodied piano sound with great presence. For me there is something even better in his playing in the mono set. There is one earlier 50s mono recording in that box. Listen to him play the Hammerklavier if you have some time.
I asked Jens Laurson - the author of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas survey on Ionarts - about the two Backhaus cycles and he told me he slightly preferred the later cycle. Here's the survey: Ionarts: Beethoven Sonatas - A Survey of Complete CyclesPart 1, 1935 - 1969 I haven't heard the earlier (mono) cycle, so I can't say which one I prefer.
