What is the (somewhat faded) stamp on the jacket? Was that to differentiate stereo from mono editions?

Looks like the golden EMI stereo logo. I’ve never seen one in person, but I believe it was a sticker.

I believe they recorded the quartets 3 times (at least). The only complete set I have is the Columbia Masterworks recordings from the '70s and I've not closely compared them with the few RCA ('60s) and later CBS digital ('80s) editions I've picked up -- all on LP. I believe the latter set was released simultaneously on CD. Any reviews you've seen that favor one over the others?

It is the golden "Stereophonic" sticker having once had a copy of that record in its original pressing.

No, did a quick search but couldn't find any comparative reviews.

The Tchaikovsky having seen some reviews has been purchased. The 1973 Milstein on DG is my usual 'to go' account btw.

The postman brought me two goodies today.

I started with No. 15 from this 7-disc set. Superb playing--intense yet lyrical, with excellent close-mic'd sound.

Then I moved on to this replacement of a scratched copy. I love her playing. It's so full of life and spontaneity. Superb sound. Also close mic'd but not airless. The cover looks like an ECM type, but it's on the Accentus Music label.

(This emerging complete Bach cantata cycle from the J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen in Switzerland is, IMO, the best performed and best sounding of any on the market)--

    J. S. Bach

Maazel. Odd that he isn't named on the cover.

The choral pieces on side B are performed by the Children's Choir & Oratorio Choir of Miskolc conducted by Janos Remenyi.
