Thought I'd start this thread since I don't see a lot of active threads dedicated to all things hip-hop related. I personally prefer old school Native Tongues era hip-hop where jazz samples and conscious lyrics were the norm. I've attached a collage of some of my all time favourite hip-hop albums below. Feel free to talk about anything hip-hop related like favourite artists/albums/lyrics, new releases, top 10s, stuff you're currently listening to etc.
Some great albums in that collage... I can't believe there's a Nujabes cover in there! I also like old school but there has been some great hip hop albums over the last few years. I was listening to One Be Lo's S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. just yesterday. It's dope stuff:
Currently listening to De La Soul's Stakes Is High. One of the most underrated records in their discography and in hip-hop in general.
I really enjoy "Real Brothers" by B.G. Knocc-Out & Dresta right now - amazing production and great overall feeling!
Dizzy Wright 702 Friend got me hooked on this EP. Nice skills. Verbal, spare production value, but catchy and disposable. Spotify stream is sufficient for me. Pass the j, wiggle that a...
At first I thought this was an old Eightball and MJG album: Member this? anybody? Checkin the out E.S.G. joint now...
My favorite Eightball & MJG album! @kanno1ae just mentioned it in one of the other lone rap threads here while discussing 1993.
What's your favorite of 2Pac's albums? I ended up getting seven of his CDs this year after finally locking into his idiosyncrasies.
Nice to MC Solaar in your collage along a few other of my favorites in Black On Both Sides, Liquid Swords, Things Fall Apart, Paid In Full, Black Star and anything by De La and Tribe. NP: Pete Rock & C.L Smooth. This was discussed on the other hip hop thread, somehow I missed it back in 93. Good stuff.
The 7 Day Theory is pretty great. It's eerie and really different. But Me Against The World has a lot of great stuff. All Eyez On Me could have been a killer single disc. His first two albums 2Pacalypse Now and Strictly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z are more old school but still good for that style. His first 2 posthumous cds R U Still Down and Til The End Of Time could also have been killer single discs too. So I'd say Me Against The World and 7 Day Theory are tied.
Yeah the albums after that I don't own like Better Dayz, Loyal to the Game and Pac's Life. Some good stuff but too many fake duo raps and over production.
Legends Never Die R.A. The Rugged Man (2013) Well, he didn't say Modest Man. Haha. Nice flow. Really. Very good album.
