    This looks interesting, from FB:

"Final mastering tweaks to the two previously unreleased albums on the forthcoming solo box this week. Sounding good when not embarrassing (yes there are a few 'what was I thinking?' moments). There was no autotune in 1989, that's for sure..."

S/t came out in '90 and Love Story in '95, so it looks as though there's an unreleased album before and after the officially released albums. Anybody have any idea whether this material ever got released on any other albums? There were already lots of odds and ends on Cleaning the ashtrays, which scanned partly the same period.

Hope it sounds better than the distinctly muted Commotions box, and that they get the right tapes this time...

  10. Yeah, not much I don't have. What might attract me is the mastering.

I think some of this might have been on the prior box set (ashtrays)

My autographed copy of this set arrived yesterday.

Good to re-visit 3 albums (S/T, Don't Get Weird, and Bad Vibes) that were pretty much the soundtrack to my life between the ages of 24 and 27.

Great stuff, _Love Story_ is particularly underrated.

How are the demos? As much as I love Lloyd, I've never felt his demos were revelatory.

Comments on the sound ? I'm nervous of this as i didn't like the sound of the Commotions box, and the same guy has done the remastering.

I'm far from a reliable source on sound issues. Of course, the original discs sounded terrific, so I can't imagine there's an upgrade here.

But I'll let others with high-end systems confirm that...

Where did you get the signed set from? LC.com? If so, what was the cost? Maybe I should cancel my amazon.uk order...

  20. Lloyd is signing orders through his website. They are out at the moment but should get more at the end of March and will continue to sign orders.

Looks like a good set. I love 'Don't Get Weird On Me Babe'. Such a great album and the original cd and vinyl sound great. 'Mr Wrong' off 'Bad Vibes' is such a great song too.

  22. Bad Vibes is the one that could use remastering most of all. An u derappreciated gem that got lost when Lloyd switched to Ryko briefly. Didn't get the promotional push it needed.

It is a patchy record with some really good material. and some not so good. I do remember reading it is the one record LLoyd himself really does not like (maybe i am wrong on that).

He was still signed to Polydor in the UK but i think they pretty much gave up on promoting him when the first solo album came out and flopped worse than 'Mainstream' They seemed to just let his contract ride out with no investment instead of dropping him. He did become a figure of ridicule in the UK music press by the time he was commencing his solo career so it was hard to get any traction in promoting his solo works. Don't Get Weird On Me got some good press which was deserved and there was some career momentum but Bad Vibes just went back to a standard Lloyd Cole sound and was a bit safe overall.

Ahh, thanks. Looks like it's kinda pricey at LC.com, compared to my amazon.uk pre-order. I have enough signed stuff from Lloyd - I'll stick with the cheaper price this time! :)

I didn't think $60 was bad for a signed copy--but I guess you could save $10 with Amazon UK...
