Am listening to this now on headphones.

There is so much lower end that my Top of the Line $280.00 Sennheisers can't handle it. They get mushy. A ton of bass and drum coming through.

I have the 2 fer CD and this sounds much better. No thinness, everything is much fuller. And I know what I am talking about having listening to this over 100 times before I started really liking it. You can hear the guitar strings hitting each other and the voices are reverbing in the recording studio more than ever. I also hear "peace" in the singing too if that makes sense.

The 'Daily Planet' bass rocks, along with the drums like I remember on Pet Sounds. What a rhythm group Love had on this song. Love it. Also never really heard the psychedelic effects Botnick was doing on the vocals here. My favorite song on the album now, it used to be Old Man with its amazing strings and piano sections.

All in all, I am not just hearing new things here because I want to, I am almost experiencing a different album. Oh well, that is my review.

Which Senns are you using? There's a big difference in the sonic signatures of different models.

Wow, interesting. I've never been really satifsfied with the sound of this record, though I love the music dearly. Guess I'll have to get this one.

I'm sure those are nice but they are not even close to Sennheisers "Top Of The Line" headphones.

  12. The "Top Of The Line" headphone in the link is the HD 800 and the original poster's headphones are 598's, so obviously they are 202 away from the top, or approximately 33%. :uhhuh:

I guess maybe not top of the line but I have high end hearing loss so it doesn't matter.

Are you inquiring about the section with the microphone overload? That was intentional.

I don't think I can go back to the original mix now.

Thanks for the reply. Yes-I'm talking about that. Wasn't on the original vinyl pressings!

Which other mix do you prefer? The alternate 70's mix from the collector's edition I take it? Only interesting as a bonus curiosity imo.

Yes the one Steve mastered. Not exactly sure why but i've really taken to it, it gave it some life imo even if it has its own problems too.

Are you sure about that? Just to make sure we are on the same page, I am referencing the vocal at the 5:14 mark.
It has been on every single pressing that I ever had, including the mono vinyl. I've been wrong before, so what is the matrix ID for the pressing without it??

  22. "2 fer CD" = the "Collector's Edition" with two different mixes?

Mastered from a cassette tape...Steve did a great job with what he had, but that's hardly an audiophile version of the album.

It's more dynamic and Steve did an incredible job, my preferred version for sure.
