Will it allow me to play FLAC files in iTunes?

Unfortunately no, I convert all FLAC files to ALAC using XLD.

Somebody mentioned 5KPlayer in another forum. Haven’t tried it, but looks intriguing, though with video components like VLC.

Audirvana remains one of my top choices...but I’ve been digging Swinsian lately.

Audirvana is also my player of choice. It can play tons of different formats with no problem, including DSD.

I recently switched from I-tunes W/Pure music to JRiver, so far I am loving it.

Another vote for Audirvana. Cost effective and performs well. Tried Amarra, Roon, etc.on Apple gear.

I like Audirvana except that I have this recurring issue where it double lists all my music. It’s insufferable. I’ve got it set to scan my music library location and to make changes when files are added or deleted to the drive. But for whatever reason when I go to the application it has every single file listed twice, and I can’t figure out how to delete the whole thing and start over. I’m considering J-River now, which is overkill for my needs but I’m at my wit’s end with Audirvana.

I’ve even deleted the whole program and reinstalled it, same issue.

There's this fork of Cog, which is one I have installed, which gets regular minor updates:
    Cog
…same developer also makes components for foobar2000. I sure wish foobar ran on macOS

This other, renamed fork of Cog has had more visible / interface updates, but in my limited experience it may not be quite as reliable as kode54's Cog:
Phonix - Free Music Player for macOS

Audirvana for me. I've been using it for over 2 years with a dedicated 2011 MacBook Pro and an external HD.
    Love it.
I recently upgraded to Audirvana Plus 3.2 as well upping the OS to 11 with no problems. Also now integrated with TIDAL.
The whole set up works seamlessly, and it sounds fantastic.
