    Just blew another big bundle.
I don't understand why the guys in Edmonton are having problems sourcing the audiophile records. Melodiya always has a pretty decent selection.
I was hoping I would find one or more of the Nat King Cole releases and luckily I did and at a better price then it is on the web. Also finally got my hands on a copy of Lee Morgan Sidewinder.

    Here is today's haul:

Louis Armstrong Great Chicago Concert 1956 (Pure Pleasure)
    Lee Morgan - Sidewinder (AcousTech)
Nat King Cole - The Very Thought of You (AcousTech)
Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington - The Great Reunion (Classic)
Diana Krall - All For You (ORG)
The Soulful Moods of Gene Ammons (AcousTech)
Midnight Special - Incredible Jimmy Smith (AcousTech)
    Elvis is Back (Anoalogue Productions)
Smokin' At the Half Note (Speakers Corners)
Nat King Cole - After Midnight (AcousTech)
    Africa/Bras - Coltrane (Speakers Corners)
Little Giant - Johnny Griffin (AcousTech)
Out of the Cool - Gil Evans Orchestra (Analogue Productions).

    My Poor Wallet.

I agree with you completely. Melodiya is a complete drain on the ol' wallet! For new, sealed records they are one of the best I've been to in Canada.

Congratulations to your ears, condolences to your wallet.

    Hi everyone.
I'm rescuing this from oblivion. A friend of mine is travelling to Calgary and Vancouver next week and he's asked me where to go to buy vinyl, mostly jazz. I'll definitely tell him about Melodiya, but are there any other shops worth the visit?
    And in Vancouver?
    Thanks!

  6. More to the point, is Melodiya still there? It was one of the last holdovers from my days hanging around classic Calgary record stores like the Attic and, well, the Record Store, and it would be a bummer if it went under.

EDIT: never mind, I see it has a Facebook page that's been recently updated concerning new releases and store stock...

Does having a website count for anything?

  8. I saw that, but I'm at the office right now and for some reason it's getting blocked so couldn't tell if it was active.

OK, so nobody seems to know if Melodiya is still open.
But are there any other record shops worth visiting in Calgary or Vancouver?
    Thanks.

Yes it is! I was there August this year. Good audiophile section and good all round selection. Not to many used records, though. Also connected a to a comic/toy collectible shop.

Vancouver: Red Cat Records on Main St is good (not sure what the Jazz selection is like though). There's another I used to go to on Commerical drive... Audiophile something...??? good used selection and good prices too.

Inner Sleeve in Calgary was also good, decent selection of used and not to pricey.
