Mastering of CD Singles and Maxi-Singles

    I've noticed that the sound of many CD Singles and Maxi-Singles seems to be much cleaner than their full-length CD equivalents. Why is this--is it just the subjective nature of the Mastering Engineer, or are they often mastered "flat"?

    Are you referring to re-mixes such as radio mixes and dance club mixes of contemporary hits? Can you be more specific?
