    Just came across this tonight:

    http://www.matadorrecords.com/store/index.php?catalog_id=538

A LIMITED EDITION 6-CD LINEN-COVERED BOX SET with 36 custom poker chips in 3 values, an 85-page perfect bound book with history of the label, photos, ephemera, emails, and more.

5 CDs of REMASTERED songs from the label’s history and 1 CD of unreleased recordings from the 10th Anniversary shows in NYC, 1999, recorded to multitrack via the Rolling Stones Mobile Truck.

Budget 2 LP version contains all tracks from cd 5 (current releases)

    I can't believe they're selling this for only $35. That's only $5.83 per CD

$35?!? Awesome, I'm in. I haven't bought too many Matador remastered releases, but part of me fears the mastering will be sub-par (read: loud).

Yeah, that was the only thing holding me back, as well. I went ahead and pre-ordered one, though. The price was too good not to. Hopefully the remastering is tastefully done.

Another reason I decided to take a chance on this release...

    * Matador and the bands’ proceeds from sales of the box set and the double vinyl will be donated to:

The Jane Addams Hull House Association, a Chicago, IL non-profit that’s been assisting the city’s neediest families (child welfare, domestic violence prevention, literacy-advocacy, etc.) since 1889.

The Ali Forney Center (NYC-based provider of shelter and counseling for homeless gay, lesbian and transgender youth)

The Heart Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (non-profit public hospital and a world leader in pediatric lifesaving)

I'm pretty sure she pulled her entire catalog from Matador so I'm guessing they had to license the track they included. Obviously they probably had to do that with a few bands (Superchunk, Spoon, JSBX) but for some reason I imagine her being the only one who would be difficult about it.

I had totally forgotten that Spoon released Telephono on Matador way back when.

I just received my box direct from Matador today. Nice and heavy... because of the real poker chips. Without opening the three sealed rolls of 12 each (total 36) poker chips - they appear to be similar to what you might get in a casino (not the cheap kind you might find in a "toy" store). The chips come in denominations of One Dollar, Five Dollars, and Ten Dollars.... I wonder if you could pass them off at some unsuspecting casino table?? (not that I would .. I don't gamble - other than a once in-awhile Texas Hold Em game friends and I play).

Anyway.. there is a lot of music on these discs and I have other music listening priorities, so it might be awhile before I listen to these 6 discs.

Can you tell me what the shipping cost is when you buy directly from Matador (to a U.S. address)?
