In 1980, the live Glasgow version was what you heard on the radio, but it's the studio version that got the video and which is on his most recent compilation. The notes are the same but the two versions are drastically different. Do you prefer one over the other?

    Intentionally not a poll.

Live. His normal voice sounds great, no need to add the effects.

Studio. One of the coolest recordings he's ever done. Poppy. Experimental. Positive. Were cool.

Live version is good too but not nearly as special.

Live by a mile. Amazing vocal. Great brass arrangement.

And Lennon loved it that way, too. So there. :)

I have to say the studio version, though I do like the live Wings version.

Live is the only tolerable version, and even then, barely. It was a fun video though (with the sound turned off) :shh:

Gonna go with the live version by a long shot, and the b-side "Lunch Box/Odd Sox" is one of my favorite Paul McC tunes, and was a staple of my mix tapes for years.

The studio version was the only one that got played over here. It was a big hit. N0. 2. No idea what song kept it off the No.1 spot, probably Split Enz or Rocky Burnette. I was amazed when I used to tune into Casey Kasem's American Top 40 and heard them playing the live version.

I prefer the live version, though it may be a matter of order bias for me since that's the version I heard first and grew up with. Good bass!

The live version has a ton of McCartney energy that just spills outta the speakers. Just makes me feel good listening to it. But that god awful, cheesy laser sound effect is sullies it a bit for me. I know it was a product of the times, but damn!!

Studio version by far. The live version just isn't nearly as good.

Live by far. Studio is very tin sounding and the vocals sound campy. Might like it better if I hadn't heard the live version first and if it hadn't been the leadoff track.

But to be honest, either way it's far from a favourite McCartney tune. Even when it was all over the airwaves I felt I was missing whatever it was that made it a #1 or #2 in English-speaking countries. Certainly don't hate it, just didn't think it would have been a hit (and obviously I was wrong).

Quote from McCartney on the Wikipedia page for the song:
In America, a lot of the disc jockeys on the top 40 stations picked up on this side and so it became the A-side in the States. It's the B-side in the rest of the world.

    I never knew that!

Studio version, although I love the live version as well.

The studio version sounds like he's having a blast with it. Very poppy and unique with a comfortable, fuzzy vibe.

  22. I like both. One is kinda weird the other is an R&B influenced great performance.

Love the song, I prefer the studio version (but when I was younger I liked the live version)...call it the All the Best effect!

Depends on which All The Best version.
The UK has studio, the US has live.
I wore out the UK version on tape in my teens.
