I hope you can make it happen, even with some used stuff on audigon or somewhere. :)

I purchased a MX-119 (with the tuner module) and the matching 6 channel amp this past Christmas and have never enjoyed listening to my stereo as much as when I put this into my system. McIntosh equipment (even the transistor stuff) is so relaxed and full sounding that I never experience the listening fatigue that I previously experienced with high-end Yamaha stuff. Beware though in wintertime -- the equipment seems to be very sensitive to static electricity messing up the control circuitry. I had to replace several IC's that failed due to my touching the equipment when I was "charged" with static.

A little late to the party but congratulations on your acquisition and welcome to the world of McIntosh. MA 7900 is a serious piece of hardware to be sure.

From any perspective, McIntosh is a "sound" investment.

    Cheers!

Nice amp, the dreadful looking "source" display kinda kills the cool factor.......

Plan on buying the 7900, to pair with my psb T6.
Would you think it's a lasting match?

This amp will be lasting in any pairing. Should make those towers sing better than without it, definitely.

The psb t6 is not very hard to drive, so altough the MA7900 is great and you will be very happy - I am - you might want to save some money or benchmark the ma7900 with class a gear from luxman or t+a amps etc. You can put more of the money in pure sound quality.

Maybe a MA7900 is a bit "overkill" for the psb t6. The cost of the ampifier "should be" the same cost of the loudspeakers. The MA amplifier is made to drive difficult speakers, like Electrostatic speakers - requiring the amplifiers to go down to 1 ohms etc in large rooms. Maybe another amplifier is better for your needs - for instance the Luxman 505ux (AB 100 w) , depending on the size of your room of course. You can save money, and you might get a better match with the speakers regarding your personal taste of sound. I would benchmark the amplifiers before making a choice. Just my opinions :)

Quick question for you since you own the MC7900. I just purchased one today used. It was originally bought new in 12/2013 so it's just 6 months old or so.
I am curious as to what firmware version it has on it?
I have already got a MA6600 but decided to replace it because this has a MC phono stage and the MA6600 does not.
I am planning on replacing my cartridge with a moving coil and this amp fits the bill.
It also has the 5 band tone controls which the MA6600 does not.

    Thanks
    David

Turn the amp on, press and hold the input/control knob and it will show MA7900 Vxxxxx, next line will show the S/N.

I called and talked to McIntosh. The unit had the original firmware installed which was V1.10a. The newest one is V1.34.

Gentlemen, even older McIntosh integrateds refurbished are within most of your reach. If you want McIntosh, $900 will buy you something nice. I run a McIntosh MA 5100 integrated. And I hear the music rather than the gear. Warm, detailed, articulate, non fatiguing, and effortless. Why not?

I also own the MA7900 and love it. However sometimes I wish it would have 50watts more per chancel to drive my Monitor Audio PL300

I've had the rack for about 12 years. I don't remember the name, but I bought it from the same salesman I buy everything to this day from. I will ask him who makes it.

    Nice speakers. :agree:
