I'm looking for some sad, melancholic music. I did a search on youtube but the results weren't really what i was after.
Music similar to Subterranean Homesick Alien and Exit Music (For a Film] from OK Computer would be great.

Pound for pound the most melancholic album ever. I always wonder what made Robert Smith so sad when I listen to it. Beautifully, sad.

Get your hands on some Moody Blues material. With as much majestic melancholy as they've turned out over the years, they're a band that has always lived up to the billing of their name. Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Dawn Is A Feeling, I Never Thought I'd Live To Be A Hundred, Watching And Waiting, And The Tide Rushes In, Isn't Life Strange, Driftwood, Dear Diary, Blue Guitar, Had To Fall In Love, In My World, Blue World -- and if you need a coup de grace closer, try Melancholy Man!

Fleetwood Mac when fronted by Peter Green and Danny Kirwan turned out some psychedelic melancholy classics: Earl Gray, Dragonfly, My Dream, Closing My Eyes, Before The Beginning, Albatross, Show Biz Blues, Like Crying, Although The Sun Is Shining, Underway, Dust, When You Say... The whole Then Play On project is a study in melancholia, and the dark, foreboding world Green and Kirwan were descending into (or more accurately, succumbing to).

In the vein of Leonard Cohen, try Bill Callahan (albums Apocalypse or Dream River)
