Actually from Kill to Master, I'm really happy with the SQ for the remasters on vinyl included in the boxsets. Just fantastic.

The hi-rez seems to be a hit on the Metallica forums, then again, so is the vinyl LOL

Definitely, I didn't know about the title change, didn't notice that.

Oh man, that’s not good to hear about the CD. Mine’s in the mail. Maybe I’ll get the HD ALAC as well.

Did the original CD pressings have a booklet?

Just a two pager, not as many pics that the vinyl offered.

Orange Vinyl here (picked up at local store while still waiting on delivery).

Definitely a fierce slab. Sounds phenomenal. Very nice.

I haven't listened to mine yet. What are you comparing it to Vinyl Fan?

    Original vinyl, original CD.

It’s not horrible by any means but nor is it phenomenal, no way. The original isn’t even phenomenal LOL.

You want phenomenal, listen to the 45RPM Steven Hoffman pressing of Rumours, now THATS phenomenal.

Good comparison. Maybe I won't open mine then. Or maybe I'll frame it or something.

You may enjoy it, but I personally wish I’d left mine sealed since I’d rather spin the original. Look originals are expensive so getting this new version for under 20$ is a no brainer, but I certainly don’t want people exaggerating the SQ on this, that bugs me.

The SQ on my Rhino Box version is phenomenal, better than the SQ on my original Australian pressing (which also has multiple skips). Can't imagine the new one will beat either then, based on what you're saying.

It is phenomenal. Thanks to Steve’s mastering Fleetwood Mac didn’t sound like a thrash metal band anymore.

It probably sounds better on some systems than others.

I know you're joking, but IMO our comparisons should be against other pressings of the same album, not other albums entirely. So your comparison against original CD and pressing of this album is certainly fair and valuable and I would say in that context, my Rhino pressing does indeed sound phenomenal.

I’m spinning this thing again right now and the hihat is horrible, nothing like the original. It’s also compressed which the original isn’t. I’m sure that Rhino box is stellar, I only hear good things about it.

This new vinyl pressing simply doesn’t breathe the way the original does.

I’m not joking at all. I’m not comparing it actually to the Fleetwood Mac, I’m just making a point on how people throw terms around like it’s nothing. To say something sounds phenomenal for a pressing like this, simply isn’t accurate, no matter the system. That term should be reserved for things that actually do, and that Rumours pressing is audiophile bliss.

Just played the new orange vinyl back to back with my original pressing and the original wins the race for me. The highs on the new reissue are definitely harsher than the original pressing where the cymbals have great detail but aren't shrill at all. Dynamics are similar with the original hitting just a bit harder in that department and the new pressing being mastered a few db louder but they didn't go overboard. Deep bass seems similar but the original has a bit more warmth in the upper bass/midrange that just makes it a more organic listen.

If you don't have access to an original pressing, the new reissue sounds pretty killer but the ultimate Garage Days experience is still #1 original vinyl and #2 original cd.

Fair enough. I will say that my Rhino pressing of this album sounds phenomenal. It really does.

Has anyone managed to order the 24/96 format outside the states?

The CD does come in a paper sleeve with the liner notes at least. I wish the first 3 remasters had the paper sleeve as well. Sounds quality wise, no worse than than KEM and RTL remasters.
