I had a chance to pick up Mandala's LPs but backed off because of what I thought were horrendously bad album jackets. I saw one of them whilst watching the Canadian Rock retrospective on CBC (thanks again, Sean Keane! Wottaguy!), but the quality didn't show on the screen. Could someone post a pic of each so I can see if I was right?

A major omission on my earlier post. 'One Fine Day' still rocks me out.

I agree that they are quite underrated today. And while I like that song, it's hard for me to hear a line like "I'm a spaceship superstar/got a solar-powered laserbeam guitar" and not laugh out loud. :)

Didn't Domenic end up in the Guess Who, around Star Baby time?

Canadian Mint was the first album I ever heard, back in '74, on cassette. Loved it all. Back in the early, early Napster days, combined with my own collection, I was able to reproduce the album on CD for all but one song (Might've been Hood). Of course, my CD included the LP versions of several songs that had been edited.

BTW, where's Lisa "K-Tel Chick"? I miss her posts!

Also, the Beau-Marks' Cause We're In Love was a more rockabilly, if lightweight, style.

I don't think Star Baby was him, that was still Kurt. Flavours and Power In The Music was Dom.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: Star Baby is on Road Food which is a non Dom album.

Max Webster is the best support band I ever saw. I managed to get all the cds on Anthem imports, and they sound great.

"The Last Song" got a little old after a while, but the follow-up, "Close Your Eyes," is a rare example of a sequel that is much better than the song that inspired it. It's really very lovely and heartfelt, and deserved to be a much bigger hit here in the States than it was.

You're right. I remember him on Flavours, not Road Food. I thought he added a lot. Talk about a band that could reinvent itself...

The one that most Americans can not stand to admit is... Steppenwolf is a Canadian band even though their fame was bought in by the US. market.

I haven't seen a copy in years, but it was released on Atlantic on CD.

The Chilliwack record everybody is referring to is "Dreams Dreams Dreams" it includes "Fly At Night" and "Baby Blue" .(this is their own composition, not the Badfinger song)
I believe it has never been issued on CD...However the key singles have...

:agree: The original Prism was created from the members of The Seeds Of Time, a local band IIRC, and yes highly underrated.

Who the hell is Hellfield Dave?

As far as I know the only actual Chilliwack CD to have it is on Chilliwacks Greatest Hits.

Despite the over-commercialism I really like Loverboy's original S/T album. Another artist that most definitely belongs here is Jerry Doucette's Mama Let Him Play and The Douce Is Loose.

    a Canadian Metallica

Back in the '70s (probably around 1974) I got a single by a Canadian band called Metallica. IIRC, it's called "When the Train Comes". I still have it somewhere buried in my singles collection. It was on a little label called Corn Records. I think that somebody once mentioned that they may have been from Winnipeg but, I am not certain about that. I'd love it if somebody could finally shed some light on this record/band for me! :)

    Cheers,
    Chris

A BIG two thumbs up for Crowbar and their LP/CD Bad Manors - a favourite from my teen years.
My avatar is Whiskey Howl's LP on WB which has yest to see the light of day on CD (hello? Unidisc?)
Brutus and Nucleus (later A Foot In Coldwater)
Another fav from the early seventies was a band from Montreal - Trevor Payne and Kanda Kanda.

I'm interested in what bands you saw them open up for? Here in my part of Canada, they were big enough to headline most of the time.

I agree with you on the good sound of the Anthem CD's.
