Which sounds better 1. the 2001 single layer Columbia or 2. the 2007 hybid Sony (Japan)?

    Thanks

    Is the hybrid multi-channel?

I don't think either of them are mutlichannel.

Both of these are stereo. But I do have a mono lp that I paid $2.87 for when it was first released

neither, get yourself the Sony Mastersound disc, it's in its original mono and sounds simply superb!

I can't find the post, but I remember a forum member posting his comparisions of the newer Miles Davis hybrid SACDs with the earlier single layer ones, and "Round Midnight" was one album which sounded the same. It made me decide not to get it (I have the single layer SACD).

The hybrid SACDs are also missing bonus tracks that the previous SACDs have.

That's good news, as I only have the original single-layer.

Updating this thread: which is preferred, the recently released Mofi or the mastersound?

I don't have an earlier SACD of this title so can't make the comparison and offer an opinion. I will say the Mobile Fidelity is exceptionally good sounding. . . I can recommend it heartily.

My favorite is the mastering in the Mono box. Sounds the most natural and dynamic. The Sony and MFSL SACDs sound too bright to me.

The MFSL is mono or stereo?

    The MFSL is bad!

I just managed to compare the MFSL version to the mono boxset version and strangely enough, the mono boxset is much louder than the MFSL! I don't think there is really good version of this album though, since every single one i listened i finded loud and harsh.
