I snagged them both on vinyl. IMO the self-titled Montrose album is one of the finest hard rock album debuts ever produced.
Ronnie's riffs, Hagar's vocals, Church and Carmassi were a perfect storm in 1973. And although not as ferocious track by track as it's predecessor I still enjoy the tunes on Paper Money. Looking forward to spinning these!

Thanks for the reviews. Glad these are done well. Maybe someone can give deadwax info. Gonna pick these up soon, for sure. Payday can't come soon enough now for me.

I have both deluxe CDs and, while I'm no audiophile, these don't seem overly loud at all.

And if I'm wrong about that, someone please correct me!

Happy to report that Paper Money is just as excellent sounding as the self titled remaster. Beautiful pressing too. Top rate job on both!

Thanks! I had these in my hand the other day at my local record store but put them back cause I had yet to see someone here weigh in on the quality!

Not possible from me, sorry. I got rid of the DR software and EAC when I switched laptops (no CD drive). Do not miss them one bit.

According to Discogs, looks like the vinyl for both releases was cut by Sean Magee which is a good sign (remaster by Scott Levitin?) Will be getting both on vinyl and CD in the next few days...looking forward to the live sets.

Only got the début so far, but enjoyed it very much. Very quiet vinyl, even the run out grooves are silent. Transported me back to 40 years ago and it still sounds fresh.

So both discs are in the "transition zone" on the DR Loudness site. Not "Good".
Hopefully that does not prevent Montrose fans from buying these, they do sound nice.

Those "zones" are outdated IMO, the DR is great on this set and in no way, shape or form should prevent anyone from buying it. Just finished listening to this set and I think it sounds fabulous, gives the Audio Fidelity version, which I have, a serious run for the money.

  20. Great sounding set. My favorite album involving Hagar by a long shot (although I also like OU812 by Van Hagar).

I really wish that Hagar had stuck with Montrose for a couple of more albums.

I have to wonder if this is due to a bit more bottom end on the discs and/or EQ (although if it is EQ it's pretty transparent and not intrusive).

Curious that there aren't any demos or alternate takes for either album.

Here's hoping we can get deluxes for the rest of the Montrose catalog on WB.

Interesting perspective from Sammy on the break with Montrose.

Considering the bonus material these CD sets are the ones to own IMO. I don't think any fan will be disappointed with the sound and content.

Just got the Paper Money from Aomeba yesterday. Great booklet. Interesting and well written. The sound is really cool. I sold my old copy when i heard this was coming out so i can't compare the two. But, it really sounds great to me. Better than i remember. Makes the album more enjoyable. Cool record. I like it more now than i did. Gonna get the first one sometime. RIP Ronnie. Nice playing from him on here. Some kind of fushiony stuff. Lots of interesting playing by Ronnie here. Rockin'...

I listened to the KSAN live from Paper Money, I personally love it, Ronnie sounds incredible, there is no Bill Church, but the rest of the band also rocks it - this disc alone was worth the $15!

I don't believe Church was with the band at the time, Alan Fitzgerald played on Paper Money IIRC.

Love the demos on here. Shows the interesting focused production Ted Templeton brought to the game. Love both these sets. Really cool. Great band.

Wish Sammy would do a tour of Montrose stuff with the guys.
