There's so many it's ridiculous. I've probably missed hundreds of films by spending so much time re-watching familiar ones.

    Here's a few:

    A Man For All Seasons
    The Lion In Winter
    The Ten Commandments
A Christmas Carol - any of three versions
    White Christmas
    Wuthering Heights
    Duck Soup
    Excalibur
    Darkest Hour
    True Grit
    The Shootist
    Rio Bravo
    The Haunting
    The Legend of Hell House
The Lord Of The Rings movies
    Gimme Shelter
    The Avengers
    the Sam Raimi Spider-man films
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Technically this is TV, not movies, but I watch the Hollow Crown series over and over frequently.

Used to be Halloween, but just have seen it too many times, and now has lost it's repeat viewing payoff for me. Being an Avid Hockey(NHL) Fan, also Slapshot, but again just have seen it too many times(still want to buy a Charlestown Chiefs Sweater though, but cannot make up my mind if the White or Blue one and which Hanson Brother's Number).

#1 Movie that I can watch over and over though is 'The Prestige', as like a Great Album, the first 10 Times revealed New Layers and I picked up on New Things-Like the Tagline in the Movie Poster reads, 'You Want to See It Again the Second it's Over'(That was so True for Me, and Bonus Points for having David Bowie in this Movie as 'Tesla'):

It should be watched back to back with Reservoir Dogs. You pretty much described that in your entire post. :D
On a side note, I found the original movie with Jack Nicholson on DVD at a pawn shop a decade or so ago. I had seen it as a kid and it left an impression. Nicholson plays the Bill Murray character. It's not a musical and it was not perceived as a comedy to me as a kid. I saw it as "scary science fiction".

The movie's claim to fame is that the entire thing was filmed in one day. And with my adult perception it's obvious that it was. :)

I've seen When Harry Met Sally well over twenty times, it's easily my most watched and loved film. The humour in it is genius and still makes me laugh. Went to NYC once and made a point of going to Katz's diner!

In general it's comedies that I find bear repeated watching, so Spinal Tap, Blues Brrothers, Python films, Love Actually, Four Weddings and trading Places have all have many watches over the years.

It's possibly even more uncool than admitting WHMS is a favourite, but I love the first Pitch Perfect film and have seen that multiple times! Plus Harrry Potter series has a had a few views now, it's a favourite at Christmas.

Someone above's post reminds me that I've seen Inglorious Basterds and Pulp fuction quite a few times too. I think they bear repeated viewing, the former being my favourite Tarantino movie.

Oh, and Star Trek: First Contact, not a comedy, but does have some very funny lines in like, "Definitely Not Swedish" :D

Only seen it once, but LOVED it. Some of the surreal stuff going on in that is just brilliant!

  9. Andy Smith

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

Always said that a good film is very similar to a good album; no matter has many times you play it/see it, you still enjoy the familiarity.

So, Christmas is the obvious one. 'Die Hard', 'It's A Wonderful Life', 'Scrooged' etc etc are always fun, but would you watch them in June? Doubt it.

However, 'A Matter Of Life And Death', 'Restless Natives', 'Local Hero', 'The Legend Of Bagger Vance' and any of the Pink Panther films I can sit down with the beloved and watch any ol' time of year, simply because they're 'warm' films. Throw in 'The Boat That Rocked', 'Notting Hill', 'Love, Actually' and 'About Time' too. We do like a bit of Richard Curtis.

I forgot to include 'Pulp Fiction' on my list when I included both 'Kill Bill' Movies, as was trying to get Edited before the 30 Minutes Time elapsed, and accidentally left it out. Probably also should have included 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Django Unchained'. I even love 'The Hateful Eight' that gets ranked lower by some Tarantino Fans, but watched it several times.

I can highly recommend the recent documentary about Galaxy Quest. In addition to interviews with all the actors who are still alive, the interview a couple that dresses up like Theremins for cosplay conventions, and treats them and their love of this movie with affection.

  19. There are movies I really like, but I may not watch them very often.
There are movies I have liked quite a lot, but have little desire to see again. For no other reason than I have seen them and I am done.
Then there are movies that seem to draw me in. I have seen them. I know the story, the twists, the outcome, but for some reason I will sit down and watch again, and again, and again if it is on cable or TV, regardless of where I come in or if I have time to stay until the end.

I think this last group is what you are talking about for me. Movies I just like and will watch over and over, without ever really thinking about watching.
Here are a few that come to mind.

    The Princess Bride
The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick
Monty Python and The Holy Grail
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Early James Bond
Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels
    Snatch
    The Guns of Navarone
    Kelly's Heros
    The Dirty Dozen
    The Incredibles
    A Christmas Story
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
