Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

What really shocked me was when they had Kate Bush references.

Just caught Episode 3 - time travelers - thumbs up - just as good as the old show. The first episode was tough - but definitely growing on me.

Just got done with Beast Of Hollow Mountain. Like all of the new season, pretty uneven, rapid-fire riffing, but ultimately satisfyingly funny enough.

My wife hates westerns so was pretty bored until the Beast finally appears - about 15 minutes before the end. Some funny stuff during the stampede scene.

While I continue to wish they would let the riffs breathe a lot more by not shoe-horning them in one after the other, this new season does seem to carry on the feel of the original.

It could have been a disaster, but it's pretty good overall.

  8. I was disappointed they lopped off the time loop coda of The Time Travelers. It's a real WTF scene and gave this movie a darker ending.

As a long time fan of the show, I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. Beast of Hollow Mountain may have gotten the most laughs from me so far. The riffs are pretty quick, which makes it seem a little contrived, and less spontaneous.

I'm through Beast of Hollow Mountain and I don't think I've heard a Zappa reference yet. There have been a couple of spots that were begging for one, so I yelled it out myself.

The scene where they first walk through the android lab was a riffing tour de force.

Happy to see that semi-obscure music references have continued with the reboot. Just heard a Sparks reference in Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II.

Do the new episodes still have Stingers at the end?

I finally watched the whole season over the last couple days, and was really pleased. They really kept the spirit of the old show while updating it just enough. A very fine line to walk, and I think they did it admirably.

This video sums up (to me) the flaws in the production of the new series and why it just doesn't quite hit the mark.

Maybe Season 12 will address some of these issues (?).

It never quite grabbed me in the same way the original did. Not sure why.

I just didn't think it was very funny. There is some weird family channel on our cable system that shows old MST3K's every Saturday. No contest - much much funnier than the reboot. They just recently showed the Killer Shrews episode, which was a definite highlight.

I think the show just got too big. Too many writers, too much crew, etc. It totally lost the charming ragtag feel of the old show. I've heard older MST3K alumni who dropped by the set for cameos express similar feelings in interviews.

I was really rooting for it, and I contributed to the Kickstarter. It just didn't really work for me though. I never even finished the second season.
