Trying to come up with an artist fitting the thread title (obscure, hit or two, forgotten) and the first one that came to mind was Daisy Chainsaw. This was a fairly minor hit in the mid-1990s. They're on a CD I have of female-fronted indie bands and they're the one that stands out as a bit of a "Who?"

I think I have two of their CDs, including that one, and they weren't bad. I should dig them out again ...

They're still together, but I never hear the name so here's the Milltown Brothers, Here I Stand:

I saw them once - all I had from them was a live cassette of one of their shows.

Never realized they had any audience outside of Canada. I think the Cash Brothers were always destined to be an obscure side act. Peter left and rejoined The Skydiggers a few times, and both Peter and Andrew made an album with the Skydiggers. Andrew had a decent solo career, did a few albums with his brother, and then became a politician in Toronto.

First heard in the closing credits of Noah Baumbach's "Kicking and Screaming". Later used in "Kingpin".

Jesus Jones, Unbelievable. My most memorable, only because my younger brother would have been about 6 or 7 at the time, and asked for the CD for Christmas. He got the CD, but only time I ever came across this -- all the packaging and labeling was right, but the actual music was a Roy Orbison best of collection. My brother listened to that CD numerous times waiting for Unbelievable.....

Even if he got the CD with Jesus Jones music on it, he'd still be waiting a long time:

...unless the CD you were thinking of was from 90's two-hit wonder EMF.

Ha, ha, yes -- EMF. Jesus Jones was Right Here, Right Now. So forgotten for me that they have blended into one band. Actually I'll make it three and merge Ned's Atomic Dustbin in there as well.

Travis had lots of hits outside the US. This one is classic 90's. I really like the band. :)

Weren't these the guys who saw sales of their album more than double the week after Beavis and Butthead gave this video positive reviews?

Still fairly well known in the UK, with at least one recent reissue. Awesome track that one, another one being Sit Down
