Barclay James Harvest 1974 - 1983. I was a child back then. Listening to them now brings a lot of fond childhood memories back:)

  4. I don't have guilty pleasures anymore, but back in the day I guess one of 'em would've been the synthy dancepop genre somewhat nonsensically known as "freestyle" or "Latin hip hop". I had to keep my Exposé and Cover Girls records hidden behind my thrash metal and Sonic Youth albums. :)

    Guilty pleasure? :yikes:

Barclay James Harvest is a top five band for me and their mid - late Seventies records are probably my favourites!

Glad they bring back fond memories though! :)

One sometimes hears Bossa Nova disparaged as 'lounge music', but I listen to a lot of it from all eras, and seldom hear compoers with the refined and advanced melodic sense of Jobim or Carlos Lyra, the poetic sense of Gilberto or Nascimento, the deft rythmic sense of pianists like Helio Celso, the vocal abilities of Gal Costa, etc etc. More etc. Listen how powerfully Gal nails this, without sounding strident or over emoting (like every other singer today).

Yeah, I recently found their first LP for $2 in a thrift store...the whole album is really good, especially the weird stuff.
    Best $2 I've spent in a while.

I picked up a very nice copy of Dennis DeYoung's Desert Moon LP for $1.99 last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it, though I was intoxicated with primo nostalgia at the time.

There are loads of recent pop songs I find very efficient and enjoy, here are some examples:
    - Spice Girls - Wannabe
    - Britney - Baby One More Time
    - Justin Bieber - Love Yourself

For a very middle-aged (and very straight) male, I get odd looks when I tell people I'm a big Lady GaGa fan. I look at it as modern glam music really - with over the top theatrics.

I'm also a Lisa Stansfield fan, though her album (which is quite overproduced!) usually gets played during housecleaning duties.

Both of them, needless to say, are pretty far out of my usual musical orbits of post-punk, Americana, old country, and classic British rock groups.

This CD would be the biggest stretch in my collection, but Karen Carpenter singing "Rainy Days and Mondays" is a Top 10 song.

Oh I remember the looks the wife and I got in our 40's when we went to see Morphine. The children were freaked out adults were present
