I always thought the hit song was titled "Route 66" and was written by Bobby Troup -- but apparently it's "Route 66!---" by Bob Troup.

Anyone ever listen to those UK two-fers that came out between 1996 and 2002, the stuff that got the Cavanaugh/Hilda treatment? I know we've discussed the overdubs from time to time, but don't know it's grown on anyone. I guess this is much of the same material at the end of the Bear box sets. On a lark, I got them out and gave them a (very) quick listen. Man, did they really have to add rhythm to Cappuccina. It sounds so hokey that I feel like I'm riding in a doombuggy in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. It's comical.

Nat and Carlos Gastel, looking pretty hot in grass skirts, circa 1949:

It's not a proper release. It's just a public domain fake.

I bought it. Haven’t listened to much of it yet, but the songs I have heard generally sound crappy.

Thanks guys, for the info I am deflated. I know this is not what we wanted to hear.

I’m still slowly plowing my way through these monster threads on NKC, so apologies if this is answered elsewhere. What is the tenth anniversary referred to in the title of the “10th Anniversary” compilation? Based on the year it was released, it wasn’t clear to me that anything really matched up.

It was meant as a celebration of Cole's 10th year with Capitol. But as Cole was signed and first recorded for Capitol in 1943, the album probably should have been issued in 1953. 1954, the year it was released, would have been 10 years since the first for-Capitol Cole recordings were issued, so I guess it works in that sense.

Also, twelve tracks are mono; two tracks are stereo. The stereo tracks are:
    1. I Heard You Cry Last Night
    2. Everything Happens to Me

Yup. Bought it from a seller on a site called Mercado Libre in Chile. Cracked it open today.

Very nice, look forward to hearing your thoughts. Hopefully the composer credits are not indicative of SQ.

"Everything Happens" has the wonky off-center mix that the original Shearing LP has...a little odd since this didn't actually appear on that album.

The 1986 "Dell" LP is the same. I suspect they mixed all the Cole/Shearing recordings at the same time in 1961, but only 12 of 15 made the cut, so the stereo mix was just sitting in the can when finally called upon in 1982.

Ugliest official-release Nat album cover? Certainly right up there, IMO.
