Acoustic Sounds has a DSD download of Thriller prepped from 1999 Sony US SACD master which is truly phenomenal (despite it being notoriously mastered outside of SACD Scarlet Book specs). Possibly the best sounding DSD release I've heard thus far (it also can be easily converted to PCM of one's taste: 24/88, 24/176, 24/96, 24/192, etc.).

I would still like to see someone take a hidef audio, downsample to redbook and then upsample back to original hidef - and then pass an ABX test.

    I can't when I've tried.

EDIT - such a test should band limit the decoding to audio range we can hear to avoid artifacts from possible high frequency samples resulting from audio equipment that isn't designed to reproduce frequencies we can't hear.

Yes and it should probably be put back there because there will eventually be several music related discussions once the store starts selling downloads. It's not just about the player.

yeah I guess, but geez this really is awful don't people know they are being duped? This takes fleecing people to a whole new level, who on earth thought people would be so dumb as to donate their hard earned money to a for profit company! These people aren't running a charity. Caveat Emptor

I agree with your basic sentiment. I think the exclusivity of the gear is what drives the emotional response of the donators. Apple has been pushing, "you know you want it but you can't have it (yet)" for things like iPads and iPhones for years now. Time will tell if people "purchasing" items like Geek Out, Geek Pulse, and Pono are "moving the cheese" or just chumps.

You realize we are getting something in October ? An actual cool physical product and often times it's at a discount to the retail version when released? Also limited items etc etc etc.

I can't believe people subscribe to a Grateful Dead series and actually hand their money over to them a whole year in advance of getting their cd's.. crazy...

Yes, October will be interesting. No doubt the people who handed over their money are expecting to get something for it. I wish them luck. And if the player is not successful enough to ever reach the retail level, it will be a "limited item" indeed.

It's not a real product yet, so don't get bent out of shape. Wait until the product ships, and then start venting.
