Another wonderful double SACD on the way from Membran... It'll be fake surround extrapolated from CDs no doubt, but it will be beautifully presented. Needless to say I'm ordering it (www.jpc.de where it's a smidgen under 10 euros)...

It's good to see that the best rock'n'roll song ever is coming out on SACD

Well, try to explain to me how an SACD derived from a CD and mixed to fake 5.1 is something to get excited about then.

    Am I missing something?!

I was wondering the same thing. How can it be SACD if it is from a redbook cd? That isn't Hi Rez. Why bother with the SACD?? :thumbsdn: Why give a "bleep" at a flying donut?

    I'm with Mal

Fake stereo was bad enough in the 60's, we don't need MORE of it... :wtf:

Ahh, but this isn't fake stereo. I suspect that this might be fake surround. It's different. :)

    It's still fake nonetheless

But it's sourced from CD for both the stereo (or 2.0 mono) and surround, yes?

The tracklisting is pretty good IMHO, but my fave is Be Bop A Lula.

What I'd really love to see is a 12" E.P. with Be Bop A Lula (Gene V.), Rocking Around With Ollie Vee (Buddy H.), Johhny B Goode (Chuck B.) & Lucille (Richard P.). Duophonic of course

  15. I hope this doesn't veer into OT too much, but is this label able to release these songs due to the UK copyright law? IIRC, once a recording hits the 50 year old mark in the UK, anyone can rerelease it. Right???

Mostly common titles, but not a bad track selection. Still, though, as far as I'm concerned these are best heard in their original mono form. No fake stereo, no fake surround.

I suspect, but I could easily be wrong, that the songs in question are in the public domain as there is nothing past 1957. I also note with interest that Paul Anka's Diana is among the songs listed. Anka told me at a press conference that he has his lawyers ready to fight the inclusion of this and the other ABC-Paramount songs he owns the masters of on collections like this, so we'll see if he takes any action.

OK, I just checked Membran's website. I'm now sure this is public domain material, and I'm wondering how good the tape sources will be. This same company puts out a series of 4-CD sets called Quadromania featuring jazz and blues artists, for as low as $13.99 each in Canada. They also have a 100-CD (!!!!!!!) set of 2,211 jazz numbers that hit the charts, and a 26-CD set of Maria Callas. I guess now they're into the rock era.

There's always the novelty factor, Mr. Marx. I wonder if this one will make it to the USA.

BTW, the only reasonably OK fake surround I have heard in that the sound isn't degraded, is the Elvis '68 Comeback Special DVD box set. The worst I ever heard is a Silverline various artists reggae set.
