That tonearm has the unmistakable look of Hanpin.

I would agree. However, it is beautifully styled. Likely decent, and priced fairly. Should be nice value for the money.

I wonder how the Denon stands up to the less expensive Audio Technica At LP120.

The best looking of the Hanpins IMO.

  8. Seems like everyone and their grandma is turning to Hanpin to OEM their turntables. ;)

I thought the tonearm looked a bit dodgy. Rest of the table looks nice for $400, though. Wonder if the tonearm can be swapped out? If the platter/bearing/motor are decent, $400 might still be a good price even if you want to scrap the tonearm.

Remember UK (and other Euro) prices almost always include VAT, white is quite significant - 25-30% often.

The look of this table reminds me of a Thorens.

Even then, as good or better than the Denon 100th Anniversary and priced honestly. A good value for the price.

Luxman (belt-drive), Pioneer, Teac (no long term hope if Gibson Gtrs is involved), now Onkyo... It really makes me wonder if at some point one of these companies is going to try to out do the other and actually drop a balls out turntable like they used to make. If they see the $$$, it'd be a good bet. Waving money in front of corporate types is like waving a red cape in front of a bull; they can't help themselves helping themselves to money. Still, it's a win, win for those of us who dig the format.

So this new Onkyo turntable, the TX-8050 stereo receiver (network capable with phono input), and the C-7030 CD player for under $1,000?

And throw in some nice budget speakers like the Pioneer Andrew Jones designs (which will only set you back about $130 each) and you are all set :))

It's OK! I don't like the non standard headshell on the Teac (the Denon automatic another offender). Onkyo wisely did standard SME/JIS/Ortofon mount.

I agree, quite odd, I am glad however there are some options available that won't break the bank, good to see :)

The TEAC is a straight arm. SME-style is for S-arms.

Personally I like it; kinda has an old Micro Seiki vibe to it.

    Happy trails,

Once you factor in discounts (street price), then you may end up with the whole system for under $1,000.

    tumbleweed,

And also SME/JIS/Ortofon mount is for J shaped tonearms too. Like the Audio-Technica ATP lineup. SME's classic 3009, and 3012 also more J shaped too as are some other arms.
