How bizarre. Most of these were moderately successful singles and would've worked fine mixed into the regular flow of the album. If Elton would've chosen a more eclectic group, I could see separating them, but not with this list...
This is kind of a waste. I never picked up Rocket Man and certainly won't be getting this. His first 3 greatest hits packages, To Be Continued box set and the Love Songs comp are plenty enough "highlights" for this Elton collector. At least we have the vinyl reissue series bringing us Elton fans something noteworthy. I have picked up all of those and they are fantastic. I would love another B-sides type collection....Rare Masters II. Heck I would even take Rare Masters on vinyl!
What a waste. The only reason I would've bought this if it had a vinyl release (like EVERY other artists new releases).
I stand corrected. There will be a double-LP gatefold version. Elton John Announces 'Ultimate' Greatest Hits Compilation 'Diamonds'
Instead of spending a huge amount of money on the 3CD version, anyone who had that kind of money to burn would be better off pickin Good point. The 3rd CD has a run of songs that Elton didn't compose and this stray (from Rocky V soundtrack) would have fit with that.
And it's abridged - it doesn't include all the songs from the 2-CD version. As much of a die-hard fan as I am, I'll skip this set. Nothing new here.
The main point of this collection, I would guess, is to get a decent vinyl hits package out there for the new vinyl crowd. Side 1 of the 2-lp set is classic Elton for beginners. I may well buy the vinyl set just for this.
The Very Best of Elton John was reissued on 180g vinyl a few years ago - it contained all the essentials from 1970-1990.
It's designed (I suppose) to appeal to someone looking for a holiday gift for the EJ fan in their life. You've all been warned - speak up if you don't want to find it under the tree.
Regarding Leather Jackets, even in recent interviews (whenever the album is mentioned) he usually says something along the lines of "the production was bad, which is a pity, 'cause it's got some great songs on it". I vaguely recall Hoop of Fire and Slow Rivers being those he thought of most highly. Personally I enjoy it a whole lot and see it as Ice on Fire's cousin. Very happy to see Victim of Love on the third disc, it's a great song. However... All in all... Pretty disappointing... But at least some new product is getting out there.

I think Believe and The One should have been on the 2 CD set. They are both great songs and did well as singles. Even though Elton picked the tracks for the 3rd disc I think the label purposely held off putting some of the great songs simply to sell more of the deluxe set. Just another example of record company greed. It's so obvious the label left off Believe and The One and Elton chose both of them for disc 3. There are some weaker tracks on the 2 CD set that should have been left off and Believe and The One belong on the 2 disc version.
