Grohl had guest artists (singers!) on the Probot album. That was excellent stuff.

I have high hopes for this.

it says you can't choose which cover you get unless you get the megabundle..($150)

    is that what you ordered?

I grabbed Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Forever.

I am an artist...so as much as I love the music...I am very into cover art, and these are quite nice....kind of exciting.

This was moving what Dave said. Letterman loves them.

Really enjoyed the new song. It's a little different sounding.

LOVE the new song. It's really, really great. Hints of funk in there. My skepticism of Foo consistency might be ready to take a long nap.

The first episode of Sonic Highways was really good.. At first I was a bit put off, because it seemed just like another music documentary about history.. But towards the end it all ties in, and it's crazy how much the songs lyrics are taken from interviews, etc..
Makes the song that much cooler

Actually, the last half of it is a direct ripoff of Dio's "Holy Diver".

I watched the HBO airing on Friday with great skepticism - and ended up loving both the program & the song they ended with - Something From Nothing.

    It was excellent, actually.

I liked how the documentary put punk on the same level of significance as the blues, and how it shone a light on a band like Naked Raygun, and the punk years of Chicago, not usually considered a punk town until the later '80s. The Buddy Guy interview was well done. Cheap Trick didn't quite fit into the narrative (though I didn't know they were from Chicago, so I appreciated learning that.) The Steve Albini stuff got a little weird when it mentioned his poker ventures.

Dave Grohl did a good job of making all this stuff seem to have personal significance to him. But yeah, the song was not too special. It sounded just like "their" (his) first album to me; I didn't realize they were still sounding like that, which is cool in a way, but the song was just kind of there in the way theirs are.

plus the level of comfort they had in the studio was a bit awkward, compared to the stories of their heroes. The drummer was complaining (light-heartedly) that they were working so quickly, not taking weeks to lay down all the backing tracks first.

but if all the episodes are this good, I'll keep watching.

Just purchased the Chicago cover, but I'm not pleased at paying nearly as much for shipping as for the record itself. Oh well.

yep. really like Grohl, and it was great to see a lot of Steve Albini, but Grohl writing songs without other (more talented) people just means the songs are all going to sound sort of blah.

I think it was an important point to make; how does one make a living in 'audio production' when he's GOT to make a thousand a DAY to keep his studio afloat!
Leave it to Mr.Albini to do it through poker!
