New Morrissey album, "Low in High-School"

Indeed. Years of Refusal remains (by far) my favorite record of his since the glory days of Arsenal and Vauxhall.

 

I think the biggest issue with Ringleader is the mastering. All of the Morrissey albums since Vauxhall have been on the loud side, but Ringleader is especially guilty of having no dynamics.

 

There could be mastering issues, but there are definitely mixing issues on Ringleader. A lot of the louder songs have Moz's voice towering over the rest of the mix, which tends to make the whole band sound limp when they should be ripping.

 

I like that one, too – it will probably go down as his last good record.

As far as his album art goes, he's been consistently off his game since Southpaw Grammar.

 

I actually like the YoR cover. It's the incongruity of it.....cracks me up.

 

It is a funny image – I'd just argue that as an album cover, it's just not on the same level as his earlier covers. It looks like he was going for something and didn't quite get there, which seems to be the case for all his almost good album art. (You Are the Quarry, Ringleader of the Tormentors, and Years of Refusal are good ideas, but not great in execution; Maladjusted, Swords, and Word Peace Is None of Your Business are all just flat out awful. Oh, and the new one is pretty bad, too.)

 

I'm also a huge fan of World Peace. Love the songs and the production

 

I'm reading James Maker's book at the moment - it'll make you laugh so much your face hurts - he's spot on about everything imo.

Mmm, this had completely passed me by and I'm not sure how as it sounds very me...

 

He has a new website and twitter account now. The album art isn't shown anywhere, including his official Facebook page. I'm holding out hope that Moz hasn't signed off on it and that it isn't the final design.

 

Hadn't heard about this. Awesome. I'm a huge fan.

The artwork... when I saw it I thought "wth that's awful". But in a way it's not lol.

Was intrigued when the keyboard jingle kicked in at the start but then the lyrics started. *cringe*

 

Love it! His voice sounds pretty strong.

 

Never mind the cover or actual music, that track list alone is likely to cause a lot of butthurt.

 

The tracklist looks like a parody.

I expect a Moz song called Spent the day in Bed to have some humour to it but this is just a rubbish follow up to heaven knows I'm miserable now

 

"Israel" sounds interesting.

 

New song is cringeworthy toss. Morrissey is 58 and if a 5 year old wrote this you'd send them to the naughty step.

 

I like it.

On the first listen I thought - it's not Irish Blood etc and "Oh it's just semi-political prose squeezed onto a rhythm", but after the second spin it's a really good single. Good on you Mozzer for standing out as usual from the bland everyday clones that rule the radio.
The LP tracklist looks like a lot of fun to me.
