Based on the 2011 analog sourced remasters- Re-done, cut digitally at 96 where applicable. Done nicely and respectable on the two titles I have. The Division Bell is a re-press of the 2014 using 24/96
My copy is stellar as well. It's never been my favorite album but as far as quality pressing 10 out of 10 all around.
Cut digitally at 96... I have this dark side remaster and it sounds good to me but still think I should be seeking out the original UK pressings.
Or higher, but yes they are digital --->LP Search the forum for further info for that title, quite a few reviews on certain pressings, good luck
It does sound fabulous, actually. VERY open, no IGD, and it sucks you right into the universe of the Dark Side.
Yes careful not to get sucked into the blackhole. Once in it, there's no way out... Seriously, I have compared the Canadian, German, Doug Sax and Bernie Grundman copies. Bernie's version just goes down line a vanilla smoothie...
And therein lies the problem - still though, a great value! Well if'n you ignore the original CD's.......
Didn't go as far as comparing vinyls with the CD yet. Have a ton of non-Floyd stuff to listen in the backlog...
Inner groove distortion is the most frustrating part of record collecting for me. It's so hard to spot visually but can spoil an album to the extent I can't enjoy it. I've had records that look near perfect be horribly distorted and records with loads of spindle trail on the label and worn out looking grooves that play surprisingly well.
I post this to push any on the fence off of it, For those not familiar, this, while maybe not considered a part of Floyd's main discography, is an important look into their work between Meddle and DSOTM. A classic and I consider it mandatory. I find it hard to believe anyone would argue that point. Anyhooo.....
As father of three youngsters I don't get a lot of time with my records. But I'm managing to get a second round of listening on these Floyd reissues. I got to say I was happy the first time around, but now that the critical analysis is out of the way and I can just enjoy the music I am digging these even more. Spinning the BG UK WYWH right now. Sublime. Next up Animals and a craft brew.
Interesting article in this month's Mojo magazine about Animals. We've seen comments in this thread about the difference in the colours on the original cover compared to the more pristine blue sky on the reissue. I've just read that the first attempt to photograph the pig on day one had to be cancelled as the pig became detached from its moorings. The ensuing panic makes for quite an amusing read, however.....on day two everything went according to plan but when they looked at the pictures, the sky was much more pristine and blue but they preferred the doomy Turner-esque colour from day one. Aubrey Powell admits that they stripped out the pig and pasted it into the photos from day one. Does this mean that the cover we now see in the reissue is the actual result of the pics from day two before they decided to use the sky from the previous day? Any thoughts?
I think it's the same photo, but it's been color corrected instead of reproducing the original's slightly under-exposed, yellow-casted aesthetic.
